Default Parking a car on the road with Tax and Insurance but no MOT?

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been debated before, I couldn't find anything on the search..

Basically my daily hack will be running out of MOT on Friday and i'm not able to get it in until the following Thursday.

The car is normally parked on a main road and I intend to park it up and leave it so I will NOT be driving it until I take it in to the test centre on Thursday.

I'm scanning the net to try and find out if this is legal or not and it would seem that so long as you aren't driving around and have tax and insurance there is no legal reason why you can't...

Anyone have any evidence of anything to the contrary?

Cheers...G

I reckon your insurance will say that you need an MOT for it to be on the public highway (except when DIRECTLY enroute to the testing station for a pre-booked appointment).

the only problem you might have is if someone hits it outside your house, other than that don't worrie, people only get arsey when cars with no tax are parked on the roads

Your insurance will only be valid if the vehicle is taxed, M.O.T'd and roadworthy.

Wouldnt believe that. Your fine to take an unroadworthy car for test!

Insurane would only be interested in mot if it was factor in relation to an accident.

Leaving the car on the public road is illegal but you would probably get away with it providing no one grasses you up, the cat gets hit or an ANPR vehicle clicks it.

If a pre-booked appointment has been made and it is being driven directly there.
Not quite the same as dumping a car on the road for a few days.

dunno the ins and outs, but phone up and get it booked in for the mot .

Then atleast its on the system, ie if police got involved, the could phone the garage and check.

rather than you saying, well i was going to take it next week etc

probably the worst idea, you are then admiring that you know about it and are deliberately breaking the law.

you best bet is to just park it up, 9 times out of 10 the police wont bother if its only a week or so if your not a cunt to them and its not being driven.

if they do come to your door, say you forgot about it and you'll get it done asap.

Unfortunately some of the scumbag insurance companies now state the car must have a valid MOT. This despite the MOT certificate clearly stating it is only valid on the day of the test !

So it is a bit of a grey area really. He would need an MOT to be actually using the car on the road, which he is not. But the insurance bit might be a killer.

Insurance companies are complete and utter criminal scumbags ( along with many other groups these days )

Only if the criminal policy states that. Although I'd say a good lawyer could fight it in court if the vehicle is roadworthy, or if the vehicle wasnt being used.

It is disgusting how insurance companies are allowed to operate in such fraudulent ways
