Yeah something dodgy going on there in my view. Bit of road rage maybe?
In a high cab truck, on a motorway, you can understand how it can happen, at least over a relatively short distance, as it would be pretty difficult to see the car from a Volvo FH/Daf XF or something, and the surrounding noise might make it slightly harder to notice. But in a low cab like that, at those speeds, there's no way the driver wouldn't notice the noise in my view.
Oh that's a good point, don't all new trucks have to have front collision assist now? I'm sure someone told me that a while ago.
As I say, you could understand how, on a motorway, a car could pull in front of you and you might not be able to see it in a big truck, so could hit it. In that though, on that road, I don't buy it. Looking forward to the Car Throttle video anyway
Loving all the self appointed do gooders with their poxy fucking cameras putting their two pence worth in. I dont think he was asleep but possibly on the phone, even with hands free it still distracts your attention away from the task in hand, driving the vehicle.
the anti collision system or AEBS as its called which brakes for you if you get too close to the vehicle in front can be switched off on the dashboard, it can be a pain in the arse as it occasionally picks up bridges and other things and slams the brakes on, not good if you are on the motorway or a dual carriageway, at the end of the day its not fool proof, relying on too much automation can be a bad thing,
as for the class 6 mirror which is on the near side top corner of the cab and gives you a birds eye view of the front of the cab, its rendered useless if you have the sun visor down as the visor obstructs it completely out of view, again not totally fool proof.
i do find it difficult to understand how he didnt see the car or hear it, I can only assume he was distracted somehow, phone, loud stereo etc etc, I dont think hell get sacked, Royal Mail is a company which is very difficult to get someone sacked from, I worked there for 20 years both as a postman and a manager

You can’t turn the AEBS on a daf it’s a legal requirement. That truck would have dabbed the brakes once that car was in camera range. It would of had a warning light on the dash. If the system wasn’t working it would of had a warning light on. I’ve road tested loads with emergency braking faults as I work on dafs. It’s a very sensitive system. People always say it’s at fault but it’s doing it’s job. You can turn off the lane departure warning.
I don't know about the latest Dafs but earlier ones you could turn the AEBS off on the dash, it would make the bleeping noise but it would not apply the brakes but it could disabled. I've turned it off on a couple of dafs that I have driven, one was a 65 plate rigid tanker the other was a 16 plate cf unit/artic. I can't comment on the newer vehicles as I have not driven anything new of late. it obviously was not working on this unit otherwise you would not have been watching the video that has been posted
There may be a button I can’t remember the exact switch on and switch off conditions I’ll look them up when I’m back at work. Advanced emergency braking system will be working over a certain kph. It dabs the brakes to wake the driver up. You certainly can’t turn the warning light off. If the radar senses something in its field of view there will be a warning on the dash
Its a DAF which have quite a low cab.
you can disable the brake assist as they get dirty with road grime etc. from memory. Been a while since Ive driven a daf.
ifs not like hes in Scania T cab or something and cant see over a long bonnet.

Done a late shift run last yesterday for a company I work for on and off. 65 plate Daf CF400 4x2 Unit. As you can see as pictured switch on the dash to disable AEBS and message on dash screen to say you have done so. As said earlier in the thread can definitely be switched off certainly on earlier registered vehicles.
Them vids are mad. The last one where the silver Civic ran out of slip road, the wagon wasnt slowing down.
stupid fucking arsehole in that civic, to avoid that collision all he needed to do was go across the chevrons back into the inside lane and that accident would not have happened, the driver in that lorry probably didn’t even see that car coming up the inside until it broad sided in front of him/her.
what people need to understand too is that when you are joining a carriageway/motorway on a slip it’s up to you as the joining driver to adjust you speed accordingly to enter safely. It’s NOT up to the driver already on the road to give way or move over although many of us do out of courtesy. I’ve moved over on occasion in the truck to let others join the road, but instead of holding back/taking their foot off the gas and letting me come back into the inside lane most go up the inside lane and hang me out to dry, truck drivers too so I tend not to move out anymore, remember most trucks in the U.K. are restricted to 56 mph or less.

people seem to think the joiner has right of way, it needs a sign to remind them that they do not. Same as we need a merge like a zipper sign.

Been a while since I played with one now and got out on a proper road test as it doesnt go wrong much. There is a button to turn off advanced emergency braking (AEBS) its for built up traffic driving off road and manoeuvring. That system works with forward collision warning (FCW). Its hard to replicate the point the warning comes on on the road but you cannot turn off FCW and it will show a collision warning on the dash in red and beep when the AEBS is switched off. I see this today on road test myself. It also states in the drivers hand book forward collision warning can not be switched off
You are misunderstanding what I am saying, what I am saying is the aebs can be disabled on the dashboard so the vehicle will not apply the brakes if you get too close to something in front of you. As I said a couple of posts above yes the warning alarm will beep if you get to close to the vehicle in front of you but with the aebs disabled the brakes will not be applied automatically, that is what I was getting at when I was saying the system can be disabled, I didn’t mean that it can be turned off completely

The braking bit will be turned off but as for not jumping to conclusions and blaming the driver if he didn’t notice a big red symbol of a truck hitting a car and hear the loud beeping he shouldn’t be driving that truck lol
