Default TurboŽd Katana going Injection, some Questions...

Goodday to you all!

My turboŽd bike is currently running 34mm CV carbs and IŽm planning on getting rid of those and to fit injection on the bike.

Now I have a set of 44mm GSXR TBŽs, along with the fuelrail.
Fuelpressureregulator and fuelpump are already there as well.

Wich sensors would I need to have a complete system and is there anybody that can advise me on what ECU to use for the injection?
The ignition is already taken care of...

I'm guessing I need a:

- 2 to 3 bar MAPsensor
- Airtempsensor

And yes, injectors too!

What else?

I used GSXR750 throttle bodies and MegaSquirt on my turbo bike.

Megasquirt was fuel only and I ran standard ignition advance, my bike had a weird crank trigger set up so I had to take the Megasquirt signal from the rev counter feed.

I did try it from the coils but there were too many voltage spikes giving a dodgy rpm signal.

Triggering from the rev counter wire stopped the rev counter from working though was going to try an ignition amplifier to bump up the signal strength but sold the bike before I got round to it.

Bare in mind you will need a boost references FPR, I used one from an escort cosworth and made a housing up to suit, although you can now buy them off the shelf.

The injectors I used were meant to be from a supercharged V8 Jag but they had Ford written on them, no idea of flow rate though...



Another thing to watch out for is the nasty little fuel filter in the standard fuel tap, it restricts the flow into the fuuel injection pump and makes it cavitate. I removed the small filter and fitter a bigger one before the pump and a proper fuel injection car filter after the pump.

The return to the tank went in where the original fuel level sensor went.

I took the map sensor signal from all four bodies and then used a moped fuel filter to act as a damper before the ecu.

That's more than helpful mate, cheers!

The FPR I have is the one currently on the bike so that should be fine!
Same goes for the pump and fueltank: the tank doesn't have an internal filter anymore.
The pump (wich is external) draws fuel from the tank through a large fulefilter wich is ment for injected vehicles.

All I need to do is sort out a return to the tank.

I'll also need a lambdasender, will fit that directly after the turbo as I've no exhaustpipe...

As for coolant sensor: My bike is not water but oilcooled...so how do I go about that one?
The normal operating temps for oil will be different to those for coolant...?
Will probbaly fleece you for info along the way if you don't mind!

Can't be much help on the water temperature sender but might be worth asking on here

On the turbo drag bikes ive been involved with the coolant temp sensor is normally bolted via a made up fitting on the the cylinder head, the aluminium temp is normally about right compared to coolant temp, if not we scale it in the ecu range settings.

If you currently use carbs, then it is highly unlikely the same FPR will work with the pressures required for fuel injection.

And you dont need a boost referenced FPR. You can just as easily run a static fixed pressure of say 60psi, or whatever is suitable for the pump and boost pressure you intend to use. But most aftermarket regs ( and OEM regs ) have the ability to accept a boost/vac reg, so makes sense to retain it.

You could simply monitor oil temps and use that as engine temperature. Makes sense than trying to use anything else.

Unless it's for logging purposes, you dont need a lambda sensor fitted permanently, especially if it cannot be mounted in a good location. If there is no exhaust at all, and you mount it where it can see fresh air, it will give false readings from time to time.
And they generally dont like a lot of heat, so in a turbo manifold isnt ideal. Although you can get little extensions to lift them away from the heat a bit.

As for ecu. More importantly is who will be installing and tuning this ? Ive never heard any good reports about KMS.

And what exactly do you want the ecu to do ? Fuel ? Sparks, Launch control ? Traction of some sort ? Boost control ? Shift gears etc ?
And unless it will all be tuned on a dyno, good datalogging should be considered essential.

- Some Aeroquip stuff

- 4 bar MAPsensor

And some other bits and bobs!

Time to get cracking me thinks!

Someone I know reached 304 BHP at 1.2 bar on a 1000 with a Godawfull manifold so on my 1200 with tubularmanifold I'm confident it should perform well...
