Default 95/96 escort cossie with 90 saph engine need tech help

hi all, i new to the site and need some help.

My uncle had a saph cosworth which he owned for 18 years, unfortunatly he had to part with it last year due to poor chassis condition!

hes had the engine taken out an all put into a escort cossie shell and as you'd expect there are a few teething probs.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

list of probs . . .

1. I need a cooling system wiring diagram for both 1990 saph cossie and 95/96 escort cossie

2. i need a dash wiring diagram for escort cossie - mainly for the clock

3. should the escort have a ambient temp sensor as the clock should display the out side temp but instead i get - - and the frost/ice light is constantly on! where would the sensor be located?

4. the car is fitted with the rs500 fog grills, these are roughtly £100 new but is anybody willing to make a swap for some standard fogs in nice condition?

5. this is abit of a tricky one, the breather which comes up from the inlet side of the engine and towards the front has been modified to a lucozade bottle to act as a catch tank! any suggestions where this breather should go to so i can return it back to standard or any suggestions on fitting a proper catch tank! a few days ago, the engine spat lots of oil into the lucozade bottle, causing it to over fill all over the engine! since then the engine has sounded quit tappy top end, ive topped up the oil (0.5ltrs) but didnt make any change, somebody has suggested hydrolic lifters?

sorry to ask so much, but these are few main probs which i cant get sorted and hope you guys could help.

thanks in advance

Bob

1) By cooling system wiring I presume you mean the cooling fans? If so the Escos has a two speed setup opposed to the single speed of the Sierra, for this reason the rad switch has four connections opposed to two. I am not sure on the wiring as don't have Escort but thats part of the car loom.

2) Can't help i am afraid.

3) On the Sierra etc this sensor is located behind the front bumper that operates the two lights (Amber and Red) would not know about the digital display.

4) I would suggest the "Swap Shop, however you need to be a Gold member"

5) You need a decent breather system depending on what state of tune the engines in! On the standard car it comes from the kidney box (Inlet side) and goes back to the airbox.

Yes if the engine has not been run for a while the lifters can be a little noisy, this should settle down after a while, if not you may need a set of lifters, INA are the ones to go for.

you've been a great help, thanks matey, when we got the car back it did run ok, then we had the instant over spill of oil in the luco catch tank, since then it's been tappy!

i guess the escort rad and saph wiring will explain the fan prob!

thanks again

No problem, are you using the Saph wiring then? If so I woulden't be using the fan loom rather I would rewire like nearly all us Cosworth owners have, don't know about the Escos but the Sierra fan loom was sub standard even when new leave alone now! Normally the fuse ends up melting as the fans stay on for to long due to the huge span of the standard switch, some Escos owners do use the Saph switches along with a wiring mod and thus single speed fans.

There is an aftermarket switch avaliable the Sierra one bring the fans on later and has just a few degrees span so the fans arn't on for an age.

The fuel pump loom also suffers from similar issue where by the aged wiring builds up resistance thus the pump can not get the power it needs, so you can end up with a melted engine, these are two known issues, again a rewire is the solution.

You can either make the loom DIY or buy pre made looms. Just see how it runs and keep an eye on that spillage.

was actually a loose cam pulley and low oil due to the luco catch tank!
