Default Going EFi and ZVH - need advice

Right guys. Im going to convert the S2 to 2.1 ZVH along with EFi - im going to go Gotech Engine Managment (already spoke to JamSport about this)

I've got a new Stage3 Hybrid T3, Newman 272 Cam, Vernier Pulley, GRS Cooler, Recored Rad, Twin Fans, FRST EFi Head and Inlet (inc throttle body, injectors etc)

Now my plan is to get the head sent away and spec'd up to Stage 3

What i want to know really, what zetec engine to use. And what to get for sensor pickups for EFi? I havnt decided what pistons and rods im going to use yet either

or...

If there's no real gain's with ZVH, still using EFi, on the CVH, what rods and pistons would you recomend?

Also.... What gearbox and clutch would you guys recomend me using?

I'll be using the car for Track/Tarmac stages

Thanks in advance
Daniel

Alright mate,
first things first gearbox if u keep the standard bc box
it's a matter of when not if the box gives up mtx75 conversion is idealy
what you need.

I have both a highly tuned cvh and zvh both offer diffrent types of power,
zvh has buckets of torque but runs out of puff
cvh has power to the limiter but produces less torque.
This is my opinion obviously other ppl might have diffrent experinces.

As for rods and pistons you realy need to speak to your builder,
but I have accrilites in mine and have been for 7 years!
But all forged pistons fo the job.

I'm gonna get slated for this but clutch,
I bought a new standard clutch from ford
and mated it with a ap paddle center plate and it's been fine with over
200bhp230 fpt never been a problem with countless launches.

Thanks for the info buddy!

The MTX75 box is that the RS2000 mk5 box?

I'll be building the car myself, engine.. the lot!

I'm a mechanic. Plus my 700+ Supra... all DIY, apart from respray and dash retrim

ZVH sounds good for my laggy Stage3, but if it runs out of puff at high rpm then hmmmmmm

don't think the zvh runs out of puff as such, just the big torque it delivers relative to a cvh makes it seem like it's got less power.
i've had cvh and zvh turbos, currently collecting parts for a 2.1 zetec turbo.
i'd say the 1.8 zvh has done me very well and no idea what power output, but 23psi of boost peak it just loses traction in fourth a little on a series1 box.
for me i'd make sure the bottom end is solid, i.e. H section rods and forged pistons.
stage 3 turbo will be spooled up by 3000rpm, and comes in violently

you'll be best to use a silvertop bottom end, as the main caps are bigger and it's the blacktop head that makes it a better engine anyhow, you'll be best to fit a 1.8 sump and oil pump/pickup too so the exhaust can be routed better.
as for cps etc, then use a cvh efi flywheel from a 2i/3i/frst and use the original cps and holder that is already in the zetec block.
as for clutch i use a full AP 4 paddle clutch and cover on my daily xr2 zvh and no major issues to mention.
as for gearbox, then get an mtx in there from a mondeo or focus as they use hydraulic clutches (no cable snapping) and cable shifter which has got to be better than the bar type shift on the bc/ib5

no reason for being slated for that fella, you won't be the first to do it and had been proven in a 300bhp cvh turbo that i knew of.

Brilliant advice guys! Thanks a lot

Is there no Cam Position Sensor on ZVH EFi?

Ive read somewere that people use the Redtop C20XE Forged Pistons. I got a set of them here, NOT the LET(turbo) ones!

Much difference between the 6paddle and 4paddle's? I got a Twin Carbon Clutch for the Supra, cost me Ł2500 - dont want to go mad on the RS. But i want it done right!

Also, at the moment the car has got a 2.5" Exhaust. Will it be best for me to go up to 3"? I can easily get one made up in stainless

Thanks Again

If you going zvh dont go stage 3 on the head, standard valves with inlet and exhaust porting will be fine, ive gone zvh 2.0 with all steel internals, these engines naturally have the characteristics to pull all the power early on then drop off early but I have been talking in great depths with sitech about the final tuning of the car so with the correct cam, ignition and spark timing it will be interesting to force the engines power as far up the rev range as possible, only time will tell if the drawing board theories will work.

Still I would recommend full zetec over zvh which is probably not what you want to hear. Thats my next build

Raj, you traitor!!

Trust me, one you get up and running with the ZVH you wont want anything else.

Take you are getting your ear nipped by the Zetec possie?

Simon.

i've taken a few out in my 1.8 zvh with ported head and 4wd cossie turbo on megasquirt, few other bits but they can't beleive how hard it accelerates.
when it comes in it comes in very strong and not a lot will hold up against it, but for me i want bigger smoother power delivery hence the zetec turbo build, i can't see the point with steel internals on a zvh but on a ZT i can, just read about a N/A 2.1 zetec hitting 312bhp@9000rpm, think of what a turbo one can do at lower revs if it could take the punishment.

I got the all steel internals, block machining for Ł1100

But when I build an engine I would always go the forged steel route but maybe not the crank depending on the setup, forged pistons and rods is always worthwhile as once its in its pretty much there for good, where as if you use standard rods, you will always get to the limit and then wish you went for hsection ones etc but that is just my way of thinking, do it once do it right etc etc

Simon, I do have faith in the ZVH and it would be a joy to keep up with a few of the zetec turbo lads on the track and the strip, fingers crossed I can even upset a few if it ever gets finished.

why would you build a ZVH that will eat money for the head to ever be able to run decent power when a std 16v head can flow 350bhp without any work.

Rods and pistons in a 2l ZT and you have easy power.

Rods and pistons in a ZVH you still need loads of money spent on headwork?

Decent power is easily achievable its just holding it higher up the rev range which is the tricky part, the head just needs the ports opening which varies from 250 to 450 depending where you take it.

With full zetec as soon as you aproach the 1 bar mark you need to change the valve springs which I think are a round th 200 mark, then there is the issue of exhaust/inlet manifolds which has to be a custom jobbie if you want it done properly ( i know you can use oem rst stuff but its not a perfiect port match afaik)

With zvh is pretty much replace the bottom end, bit of head work and away you go. I mut admit though there are very few if any power graphs on here for zvh showing an impressive climp in power, usually just a huge bust early on thwe tails off early.

Come on Mr smail back my corner up

i'll be getting mine on the rollers a few days befor ei swap for the zetec turbo, just to see how well it was really doing before i changed.
i reckon on 23psi i'm on the verge of 300bhp if not more, but it has started to eat my rings a bit
so i've gone back to 14.3psi as a daily setting, but it's only a press of a button

Reading up a lot of people swaying away from ZVH conversions now!

Really dont know what to do. I got myself an EFi CVH head and inlet manifold now. Whats a good spec cvh engine. I got some ACL bearings, big end and main. As long as theyre same size i'll use them. Rods and Pistons?
