Default Dirty petrol

My girlfriends sister filled her 8 month old fiesta up at a garage and since that it started cutting out.

Towed the car to a mechanics last night and told this morning when he took the fuel filter off the petrol is comtaiminated and brown

He is going to give me a sample and also all fuel from tank.

Does the garage she bought it from have to pay for all the repair costs to the car?

Im hoping it hasnt damaged the injectors as she drove it for about 8 miles

Is best thing i can do it go to the garage with the sample or is there anything else i can do?

Trading standards or citizens advice firstly I'd have thought.
Needs their tanks checking asap.
If found liable don't see why they won't have to pay for all expenses.

wot do you mean it was brown mate just that i was speaking to someone with a st170 and they had a brown sludge in there tank along the lines and was doing the same not revving properly and then eventually died to pump failure, and brown sludge is quite random in a tank so after reading your post bad fuel does seem to be a good diagnosis

Im not sure exactly yet as i just heard from mechanic he said when he took the fuel filter off the petrol that came out was brown. They are removing the tank at the minute so wont know what inside is like until thats done.

The garage said they want a sample to take to the lab for testing but saying just one car cant be affected if there petrol was faulty as they havent had any complaints.

Would be good idea to go get 5 litres in a jerry can to see if it was clean but if say there tanks have been filled again today after the weekend

i used to have an ST170 and my pump was faulty, when going round a roundabout or corner with less than 1/4 the car cut out. I only every used BP ulitmate. Ford replaced the fuel sender unit first, then the pump after the problem was still there and that fixed the problem. Tank in it must have been clean or they would have said something

i read somewhere recently, that either the oil companys or the petrol stations are having to put something in the petrol to make it more enviromentally friendly or protect the main tanks and this is cauing the brown sludge. just tried looking on google but can't find anything

i'd say that was far more likely to be fuel surge mate, surely?

cheer's for the reply's sos been moochin on net and forgot about topic but i'm quite sure his fuel pump prob was due to the tank being full of crap his mate that is a spanner said it was everywhere in the fuel lines so it being like sludge would of more than likely burnt the fuel pump out, but keep us informed about the dirty fuel maybe it can be chased up, it's crap when thing's like this happen because it's not like you can check it going in, and the gerry can idea wouldn't be a bad one, atleast give it a shot if it is clean then you can just stick it in the motor , you might of been lucky to be honest did you fill up or just put a tenner in or something like than

It was fine even on warning light for the first 25000 miles i owned the car then all of a sudden less than 1/4 tank it cut out.

Took abouth a month to get it fixed, first ford garage said ehh just keep it with more than 1/4 tank nothing wrong.

Soon as the pump was fixed perfect again. Round roundabout fast on warning light even was fine.
