Default Tw*t of a boss

In the workplace.

If the boss asks you if you can work extra hours/extra day you dont normally work(or on a day off) if you say "no" or "ive got plans" should that be the end of it? do they have a right to question why or what your doing?

This prick at work said why and he basically said i wasnt born in a barn, as if to say he doesnt believe me

Before i walked off he said i need you to work tomorrow, ring me and let me know.

Ive already said no you cunt

Depends on your contract! If it says "work extra hours as requested by your manager" then yes, you have to work! If not then tell him where to poke it.

if it's not your normal working day it would be classed as overtime. Overtime is voluntary not compulsory

I want to keep my job though mate
To answer the above ive already(from today) worked over my contracted hours, AND on the rota he rota'd me for a day off.
I think legeally im fine but he just doesnt believe im not free for the 4 extra hours he wants me to work, thats fair enough but at the end of the day if i say no then it means no doesnt it, he wont have any grounds to give me a talking to when i return if i dont ring him tomorrow will he? because ive done the hours thats been asked of me

Not true. Totally depends on your contract. And no matter what your contract says, you're basically screwed. Almost all modern day contracts have a bit in them about doing as your asked. Its one of the very first things they teach you when you're learning about contracts.

Basically they say something along the lines of 'You'll do whatever we ask, whenever we ask, or you'll bend over the desk' but in legal speak.

Anything over contracted hours is time and a half i believe, but i dont need the extra few quid hence me not wanting to do any more over time plus i need to be at home, i wont bore you with the reason why though.

Asking turned into telling, like i said he asked then after not believing i couldnt come in he told me he NEEDS me to work, its only 4 hours i could probably do it but i dont want to, i want a day off

We used to get the same from the old boss/supervisors in my old job. They used to try and put the pressure on to make you feel like you owe them something. It really used to piss me off and many people felt like they had to make excuses up saying they were busy. I just used to tell them that i dont want to. We all used to do at least 5-6 hours extra a week and they werent happy with that.

When i took over, i just used to go round everyone and 'ask' them if they wanted to work overtime and what day and time would suit them the best if they wanted it. If they didnt want to or couldnt be arsed then fair enough, its their choice and i respected that. They told me straight one way or the other. It was nothing to do with me what they were doing or why they didnt want to. As it happened many people actually wanted too then, as i sorted out a better overtime rate and showed them i was greatful, also very often giving them a slightly 'easier' day, so everyone was happy then.

Respect works both ways, and will benefit everyone in the long run. Its a shame that many bosses just dont seem to grasp this fact!!!

Depends on contract, but the usual seems to be...
Expected to do a 'reasonable' amount of overtime, which iirc is 10 hours per week.
Not very reasonable in my eyes but still.
Also, need to be given adequate warning, applied that one before.

Asking you to work the next day, if you went in and asked for tomorrow off, be told to get fucked.

Sounds great, i wish thats how my boss saw things

If he wasnt such a prat i may want to spend more time in his company and actually do the over time

I thought fck it just a minute ago and rang him to say ill come in, its only 4 hours i can cope with that plus i dont want to do anything to make him be even more of a cunt, then im off for two weeks

If he dare asks me to come in the weekend ill tell him im seeing my sister in wales for the weekend

If he wants to act like a cunt then ill make up excuses rather than being honest as the guy said above respect works both ways, i dont see why that should change between a worker and a boss

Trust me, it's the latter For day to day work related stuff, we converse through another office member, and if we REALLY need to speak (like I need some tools, or supplies etc) then it's via email or written letter

Sounds pathetic, and to be truthfull, it is a bit. But it's gone on so long now, thats it's now just the way it is. I don't like her, she don't like me - I have nothing to say to her, she seems fairly happy about it - everyones a winner

Used to work at a place where I hated my gaffer and in turn he hated me, he used to ask me through supervisors to do O/T which was always a no unless they paid me a good amount in cash,
He then asked me face to face if I would do a weekend, told him no as I was going away for the weekend which I was,
Then low and behold, there I am in my hotel in the lakes with a wench when who turns up at the bar, my fucking gaffer, CUNT

In fairness he did get a round in

The problem is now he'll do the same again. I used to work for a high st retail company and they used to rota staff in when ever they felt like it for bank holidays etc. I understand that they need extra ppl for busier days etc but they were such c**ts there i got fed up and asked them never to rota me in extra hours again. They did for a few months and I never went in. For a while thay wld ring up and ask where i was but i never went in so they gave up and left me alone
