Whether its a prisonable offence. Well Grade 5 is. But I believe Grade 1 isnt. So theres clearly some discretion involved.
What amazes me is that Langham used a similar defence to Pete Townsend (The Who Guitarist) and was convicted whereas Townsend wasnt.

Townsend was also "doing reasearch" and to make it worse you still see him around and everyone seems to have forgiven him! (He was on Top Gear when they tested the vans)

I think that's a bit strong to be honest. I do think the comparison was way off the mark, but I think it would be wrong to delete the thread. It is an issue that I think does need to be discussed, I think things like this are very often avoided because they are so controversial. But you can't just try and hide from it.

What does annoy me about the whole thing is the ITV/Sun take on it all, this bandwagon they try to get everyone on, as with everything, throwing in plenty of adjectives, 'monstrous', 'vulgar', 'horrific', all that kind of thing. They try to make out like it's something new, that's not happened before, when in reality, it's been going on forever, that winds me up. I think it is all being misrepresented a little, no matter how awful it is, certain areas of the media would have you believe that there is a paedophile round every corner, watching every child in the UK, whereas in reality, I can't see that it has changed much for a very long time, apart from the impact the internet has had. But I'm sure there are probably far worse things on the net as well, but that doesn't matter, because paedophiles are the 'in' target for the media, so that's what we have rammed down our throats day in day out.

There was talk of locking up ALL people with mental conditions, that's about half the country then, IN CASE they committed a crime.
Medication does work to control the urges, and IS effective.
My next door neighbours son is 3 times convicted paedo, and I have a son(10), so know it from both sides so to speak.
I would NEVER trust him alone with my boy, but as a person he is actually a very decent ILLNESS APART.
I did fear that I was going to be locked up as have brain damage that leads to psychotic tendencies, and have been detained under the mental health act twice, I know the difference between right and wrong though, paedo's don't always.
Yes some of them should be locked up all the time but some are ok if they can show they are taking their medication, if not lock those up as well.

From what ive heard on the news etc, people are turning creating these images/videos into big money business, if people werent paying to download them then they wouldnt be doing so and the poor kids in the scenes being abused wouldnt be there in the first place.

So IMHO, they are all guilty, both those selling the images and those buying them, if people didnt pay to use these websites that Chris Langham did then there would be no reason for those websites to carry on abusing kids for profit.

 

Its a mental illness, therefore should be dealt with accordingly.

Throwing people in prison will not do anything will it? Putting people on a programme to control there feelings is what is needed.

Considering we have drugs which can completely remove all sex drive, doing this would also be on the cards.

 

Im not convinced that everyone who ever looks at an image of child porn has a mental illness.

I think people should be tried as criminals, and if they wish to plead insanity in some form then that is up to their lawyer to convince the court its the case, and if found to be the case then they should be given help accordingly, preferably initially in a secure unit away from the kids they are a risk too.

My brain has never asked me to click onto a pornographic image of a child. Therefore my brain is normal, in that respect anyway.

If your brain asks you to look at pornographic images of children and you are then getting turned on from those pictures. Your brain has a problem, in that respect.

You would be suprised how many people ask for help before they know its too late

If someone has not committed any offence to a minor prior to images etc. being found then they have no right to go to prison, they have the right to be helped.
