Wind turbines
Has anyone out there got wind turbines close to there homes?
I live in a small village in Nottingham called Bilsthorpe to which a proposal has been put into our local council for 7 fookin wind turbines.
I am not a happy chappy in the least.
These turbines are 360 foot high (higher than Big Ben)
I would like only serious feedback on this issue, to how close they are to you, noise, and effect on house prices?
Thanks in advance.
Clayton pissed off Borg.

there isnt any actually next to my house there are on a hill local to me, to be honest i have no problem with them and dont see why u should really, they are massive tho!
think they look kinda cool in a way, and as for the noise, they do make some noise but dontthink it would be enough to bother you in a house,
and not sure about house prices either, like i said im not all that botherd by them but seems theres a lot that dont like them so think it would have a negative effect on prices
cheers Ric

Theres some about 5 miles from me, a row of about 16 of em, dunno if locals objected but what would you prefer mate, a replica of Ratcliffe Power Station on your doorstep instead ? Least there quiet, clean, low maintenance.
Ideal case of the NIMBY effect (not in my back yard)
Great ideas wind mills... free and cheap electricity and the way forward in the long run... very good idea
As long as I dont have to have them anywhere near where I live.

Been told that houses will loose 20%

imo the wind turbine is a thing of beauty. i'm not sure that i'd have the same view if one was erected in my back yard and the rotation noise kept me awake (if that can happen?
)
we all need electricity, and i think that it's better to get it from a natural renewable source than oil, gas etc if possible. i'm no hippy, i'm an engineer, but give me a wind turbine in the countryside over another sizewell (or any other conventional or nuclear power station) anyday.

Rather have a big windmill than a sub/power station in my back yard.
There are plans to have them up on Saddleworth near us, some of the rich tossers around there dont want them as they say its a detriment to the countryside, but using oil/gas etc it detrimental to our later children.
Get over it, 12 months down the line you would have forgotten about it and prob be moaning about something else.

I make them so I'm biased lol
I don't see the problem with them, they're far more efficient at producing power than fossil fuels, don't generate as much pollution and they don't look that bad really
If anyone wants any info on them I'd be more than happy to grab it from work

I make bits for them so Im also biased
Been over to denmark where there are far more than the UK and although you see them everywhere you dont really hear them, I guess on a really windy day you might hear them a bit, but if its that windy you wont be in your garden

I have about 30 of them with in a few miles of my house. The noise they make is minimal even when your beside them. I think they look pretty cool and have'nt made any difference to house prices plus as some of the guys said would you rather have a big coal burning power station close to you of a nuclear plant.
I think they are a fantastic idea and would be happy to see more of them in this country, regardless of their positioning
20% of house prices nearby would be great for the first time buyers too

better having the windmills than the huge power station near you that already exists !
Why don't we just build more nuclear power stations rather than spending money on all these windmills?
Our energy needs are going UP not down, and yet we seem to think that these methods of power are going to cut the mustard? Kids doing GCSE Geography are taught that renewable energy like Wind power will only create a fraction of that needed by the likes of the UK, so why bother at all?
I say spend the money on Nuclear power stations and making things more energy efficient - I particularly like the recent news about products making standby modes obsolete as this accounts for a huge amount of wasted power! (I must admit I'm guilty of it though).

I can pull up som stats that would frighten you as to how bad we are.
If everyone in the UK had ONE energy efficient light bulb it would save enough energy to power the UK's street lights for a year

they facinate the life out of me, when you think each one is 3.2m around the base, each blade weighs over a 1ton and is 22m in length and the generator sat on top of the pole weighs 17 tonnes. Thats a pretty impressive structure in my view. In fact i want one!! What is really a shame is that they are not a british product and they stand on 20tonnes of concrete. Amazingly each one takes 2 days to erect
