Why don't we just build more nuclear power stations rather than spending money on all these windmills?

Our energy needs are going UP not down, and yet we seem to think that these methods of power are going to cut the mustard? Kids doing GCSE Geography are taught that renewable energy like Wind power will only create a fraction of that needed by the likes of the UK, so why bother at all?

I say spend the money on Nuclear power stations and making things more energy efficient - I particularly like the recent news about products making standby modes obsolete as this accounts for a huge amount of wasted power! (I must admit I'm guilty of it though).
