Default HELP ! ActiveX issue driving me bananas

I recently reinstalled Win XP ( about 2 months ago) and every now and again I cant get some web pages and a windows error message comes up stating:

'Your Current security settings prohibit ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly'

Now I have installed ActiveX 9.0b which came with the card and have tried to install 9.0c (as I had done on the previous install with no problems at all) but it goes through the motions but doesnt actually do the upgrade.

Can anyone shed any light on this as it driving me bananas !

Cheers

xp pro? the windows firewall doesnt like active x, you should be able to disable it in control panel.

hmmmm thats the only thing I have setup differently. I usually install Zonealarm but thought I would save some time and use the Windows Firewall. I'll give it a go when I get in later

usully you'll get a little drop down at the top of the page stating the sites trying to run active x, if you right click on the drop down it should give you an option as to whether to keep blocking it, allow it to run once or allow it to run everytime you visit.

but windows firewalls pretty usless anyway so most people just turn it off.

i can't recomend spysweeper anymore, since i started running it i've never had issues with virus' spyware etc, although you have to pay to use it, you can get it free if you know where to look

I'm not 100% sure but i don't think windows firewall works with firefox seing as its a windows explorer application. which would explains why you've never had the message.

Turning off the Win. firewall seems to have cured it, have to wait and see what happens now
