Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help with a steering issue on a 2004 st170, basically the power steering is not working, the car had a new rack last year, the belt is driving the pump, would I be right to assume the pump has failed or should I be looking elsewhere, thanks in advance, steve

 

as you had a new rack chances are its the pump

 

Sometimes there is a gauze inside the reservoir that clogs and starves the pump, check if it has one and it is clean. Happened to my mondeo.

 

Hi all, I'm currently stripping down to replace the pump, the 1st thing I noticed is the oil smells burnt, and is grey, any ideas?

 

old oil can simply break down naturally, have changed it a few times on cars when its become like this
