Power boost valve of not.? XR3i 1-8 105 bhp..
Hi guys now, thanks to all of you, that I have ended the mystery as to whether my XR is a 130 or 105 I'm wondering if a power boost valve would enhance the output of my 105.?
And another strange one while I have ya.. When I turn the ignition on, I get the oil light and the handbrake light but NO battery light. It comes on occasionally but generally doesn't.. My understanding of Fords and I have been driving them since the late 70's is that the battery light will glow or come on fully if there is an issue with the output from the alternator. But this is the opposite.. It doesn't come on at all when I turn the key in the ignition.
Car cranks over fine and starts first go and the battery appears to be charging.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks again.
Morg.

The best thing you can do is upgrade everything to the 130spec (or beyond). To get the 105 to 130 spec you need to get the following:
* 130 spec cams (2.0 are very very similar)
* Inlet manifold (marked HO) with matching throttle body
* Intake pipe
* ECU
Additionally, a good exhaust and manifold really let these breathe well.
A well setup Power Boost valve will not improve power, it will sharpen response a little bit as it will keep the pressure in the fuel injector rail more consistent. A bad one will lose you power. I also find that a good service and quality plugs, leads and coilpack help the zetec achieve what it should
