Wireless Network Help Please!!!
I have a netgear router dg834n linked up to my packard bell machine, this all works fine, the only problem is when i'm on wireless with my laptop [advent].
Some websites it will work others just take ages and ages to load, and normally it goes into hibanation before the page loads. Simple stuff like google, passionford just will not load. Ebay, autotrader, microsoft all work fine.
I've tried IE and firefox and it's the same. Both machines are i.e.7 xp home with the most recent updates from windows update site.
i've done a speedtest.net on the desktop and that came back as 1850kb download and 240 upload, but the website won't even load on the laptop.
any ideas?

First of all, turn off hibernation and screensavers, secondly, what sort of signal strength are you getting on your wireless adaptor connecting to the router ?
Is wep encryption enabled ?

That router is a Pre-N router. This is a standard which is not yet ratified which is why the routers are called Pre and not just N.
The wireless in your laptop is probably a B, G or 108G (TurboG) at best... grab yourself a Pre-N card to go with the rangemax router, you need the WN511B draft-n PC Card

i'm on tiscali adsl unlimited, don't know if thats adsl2 or not, how can i find out?
the wireless setup on the laptop is Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, is that not compatabile with my router then?
I've just tried switching from wpa2 to unsecured to see what happens and it's still the same.

I dont know if Tiscali is a ADSL2 service, in general most of the the very high speed connections are ADSL2 such as Be Unlimiteds 24mb connection, I would suggest calling your ISP for clarification on this.
The Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG most certainly is not wpa2 complient as far as I am aware although some software upgrade may have changed this, there are however connection issues associated with this hardware.

The issue is basically random disconnection, and I have seen it behave in a manner where it disconnects and reconnects straight after, this causes a page time out which shows as '404 error web page unavailable' in the browser.
Intel claim to have resolved this issue with driver updates, although other people including myself are not so sure.
Having said that the card should work with a 'G' setting and WEP on the router however it will never take advantage of the performance offered by the router and as such I would change it to a card that does once It has been clarified that you have a ADSL2 connection

Many thanks for your help lads, i've found a netgear forum and been searching through there, it seems it's a very common fault and it's a software issue on the router. Therefore theres a update available which i've downloaded and now it's working mint.
Cheers lads!
