Default Cossie overheating :(

Any ideas whats causing it?! ive taken out the stat for now, and bypassed the fans but its still going in the red, the odd thing is the header tank isnt even getting slightly warm which it used 2 althou i did diconnect the turbo water feed temporarily so would that cause the header tank to be warm normally?!

Also got a leak in the rad anyway so will need sorting

Toe Knee your temp switch isn't knackered is it m8 ???????

Failing that is it blowing hot air inside the vechle might be blocked matrix

as you have removed the stat it will as a rule take the coolant in the header tank longer as in the engine to warm up

And Failing all those ideas head gasket ?

Hope this helps
Regards Doug

yeah removing the stat would cause the water to take longer to heat up as its permanently running through the rad, also disconnecting the turbo coolant hose would reduce the header tank temps.

Can't think why the engine temp gauge is reading high though

Could be a faulty temperature gauge, when I first got mine it ran in the red I changed everything and the previous owner had even wired a switch in to allow the fans to be switched on as it seemed to run so hot, after changing everything I could think of I got hold of a second hand temperature gauge and problem solved! It ran in the 'norm' where it should, turned out to be a dodgy gauge.

What about a water pump?

Engine hot...header tank warm.....water not circulating around the radiator, header tank etc.......

I had the same problem on a s2 turbo, i blew down the header tank and this pushed the hot water around and then the header tank was hot!

Just a suggestion!

Yea im kinda agreeing with Daz on this one, the temp sensor i replaced when i did my last rebuild so its deff not that, and it didnt make a difference with or without the stat in so cant really be related to that, and for the gauge to be in the red i would expext the header tank to be slightly warm and it wasnt Only thing i can think is theres no/not enuff water getting to the head causing it to get hot as quick as it is as obviously thats where the temp sensor is, anyone else agree?! gotta get the rad looked at anyway cos of the leaks The water pump i replaced bout 2000miles ago too so shouldnt be that.

If the temp is reading hot,and it's working o.k, then surely there must be hot water getting to the head, thats where the temp sensor is!
if the engine is very hot,as the temp gauge is showing, and you have fitted a new pump, then it can only be the rad stopping the flow to the header tank (this being only warm )

Can see where ur coming from but would have thought if the head was getting too hot due to not being cooled properly the gauge would get a reading eventually anyway?! or am i off key lol.

If the rad is blocked, water can't circulate and it won't keep cool. The water will be moving very slowly or not at all so won't be able to cool down..

Cool cheers Daz, will find somewhere local to have a look at the rad, theres deff a problem with it as it was leaking from 2 places which could indicate a blockage!! Would my local ford dealer be able to tell do u think or should i go to a proper rad place?!

Cheers

You can have the rad flow tested but if it's starting to leak then just get a new one/get it refurbed! It's not worth fooking about with.

Cheers for the phone number!! their actually in Newhaven lol, but getting them to do it!! gonna be £100 which isnt too bad, would be paying near that for a 2nd hand cossie 1 anyway!! Aparently most cars have plastic side tanks so its easier to do but mine had metal ones so have to be soldered on and aparently its the first one he's seen like it lol. But with a bit of luck it was that causing all the probs
