If the temp is reading hot,and it's working o.k, then surely there must be hot water getting to the head, thats where the temp sensor is!
if the engine is very hot,as the temp gauge is showing,and you have fitted a new pump, then it can only be the rad stopping the flow to the header tank (this being only warm )
