Default Problems Esc Cos

My big turbo Esc Cos is really getting on my nerves here.

We installed some nice SPA gauges and things didn't exactly go like planned.
Now, after everything was done, we tried to get the car started wich of course --> FAILED.
Jump starting was no problem but it would not start on it's own battery which was new. We also had a misfire when boosting above approx. 1bar.
Changed several sets of plugs which of course didn't help at all.
We tried a new starter --> still the same.
In the end we changed the fuse box and she start now, although I ALWAYS have to try twice. She never fires from the first go.

We also thaught that the misfire would go away with changing the fusebox --> WRONG. The misfire is still there and now we just noticed that the fuel pressure DROPS to about 2.5bar when boosting.
Suspect is ofcourse the fuel pump but which pump should I get and can anybody recommend a place to buy and at what price?

I'd really like that my pride-n-joy drives again after hibernation from September 2003 onwards.

It has nothing to do with the gauges installed as the car allready ran rough when we put it to sleep last year September.
The pipe to the fuel reg is on and so is the other end.
I do have to admit that the pump is a bit noisy.

Battery is a brand new one so it seems strange that this would cause it but any idea on how I could check this?
If I can't find the problem this month, then I'm coming to the UK to one or another tuner to have the problem fixed. It's BLOODY annoying.

Stu has allready helped me more then enough m8 through mail without ever getting compensated for it. Feel guilty enough over it.

Strangest thing is that this only occurs when running boost above approx 1bar.
Will mail him again as calling is stupidly expensive for me and I can't exactly call during work which is from 7am upto 8pm.

Hello Speedy G,

I had the same problem with my sapphire 4wd cos. When I put the throttle down and the boost raised above the 1 bar....I've noticed that the ignition backed the engine off. Very irritating. A dutch cosworth tuner told me to look at the connectors above the back of the engine. There hanging a lot of connectors (I thought 4). He told me to clean the connector and connect them again. In my case there is one connector which wouldn't close very good because something was broken. but the problem was away now. I hope it is the same problem with your cossie.

Best regards,

what amp/hour rating battery did you fit? have you cleaned all the multiple feeds that come off thge battery positive into that black fuse bank ? i found corroded wires there on mine and loose connections and with a rusty main body earth to the inner wing and oilg grubby earth to the gearbox for the starter - all this didnt hekp - i also had to replace all my multiplug connectors behind the headlight by soldering them and heatshrinking them through.

Speedy, are you on Pectel?

If you are, try it with another Pectel board. (Thnking about the missfire here... In case your fuel pressure gauge is wrong)

@wimwerf,
Will have to look into those m8.

@Dave Henshall,
Got the battery recommended for my car but I'm unsure on those values at the moment as I don't have the car at my place.
Multiplugs behind the headlight are allready done.
I was thinking of putting some new earths in her but nobody seems to answer my question about that.

@Stu,
I am on Pectel.
Receiving the ECU of Jo tomorrow I HOPE so might be able to check with another ECU and Pectel board.
However, we will change the fuel pressure regulator as you can never know with Cossies.

Oh, I hate my car at the moment but I will SO love it when it returns to it's normal health.

Hi,
As i explained by E-Mail, only the reg/pump/pipes/wiring can cause pressure at the rail to fall as boost rises.. so you are on teh right track mate.

The missfire may or may not be related, but if teh fuel pressure really is falling as pressure rises, then its a dangerous leanmissfire.

Best of luck

sounds like it could be some problem with the wiring to the fuel pump. if it is drawing too much current the voltage will drop and the pump may not be able to supply full fuel pressure. this voltage drop can than affect the whole electrical system, including the coil, giving you a weaker spark that will also show up as a misfire on boost.

Thanks for all the help peeps.
Will try and look into all these things although I always have to wait untill a good m8 of mine has some time free because I can't do anything on my car myself.

Complete and utter dumb when it comes to cars.

Let's hope that we get everything sorted because I've got a little trackday on the 14th of July.

Not yet m8.

Starter motor is now playing up.
Starts nearly perfect when she's cold but she will NOT fire when she's hot.
And worst thing is, the starter motor was reconned last year.
