Default Problems getting into Reverse

I have changed the cluth and had a reconditioned gear bok firted to my RS turbo but still cannot get it into reverse when the car is hot.

When the clutch pedal is fully down it doesnt take much movement before the clutch bites and the car begins to move.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.

My old RST used to do this....it was much easier to select reverse AFTER you put in neutral, let clutch out, then press clutch in, select 3rd then go straight for reverse, used to glide staright in doing it that way...

Sounds like the clutch is dragging a bit to me, my old fiesta turbo did this and the pressure plate was shot. Have they put correct clutch and bearing in, also is self adjuster working ok on pedal. All you do when you put it in a forward gear first is engage with synchro and this stops or slows down the main shaft in box which then enables the non synchro reverse to engage ok, not good long term to be honest. Go back to whoever fitted the clutch.

I always use the garage so trust them with the clutch they fitted. It did it on the old gear box which is why I changed the gearbox and had a new clutch fitted. Didn't think you could adjust the clutch biting point fom the pedal itself? Could it be the gear linkage?

You can't adjust biting point it's self adjusting, on the ratchet and pawl behind the pedal.

It hasn't been changed has it? Cos there are 4 types and they all look similar but it effects the travel of the cable

Is the idle speed normal or fast? If it's too fast it could affect getting it into gear.

Is it grating, or just 'blocking' when you pull the lever back? On some cars with B5/IB5 boxes sometimes you have to lift the clutch ever so slightly, then it will drop in gear.

Other thing to do is put a clutch pedal off a Escort 95> with manual adjuster on it.

If it goes in the forward gears ok, the gear linkage should be spot on.

if i fit a a clutch pedal of an escort 95 will this give me the ability to adjust the biting point, also i have been told that bending the arming on top of the gear box that the cable connects onto will give me more clutch clearance.

I think this is the main problem even with the clutch pedal to the floor its not disengaging the clutch enough.

I would ask at the garage that fitted the box and clutch first, might be a minor issue that they can easily sort. I wouldn't start bending arms on the clutch. Mine was a knackered pressure plate when I had this problem, but as yours is new shouldn't be this.
