Default Ford Escort MK6 Steering Wheel removal

Hi guys, I have an issue with my Escort Mk6's steering wheel which Im trying to remove to fit a bosskit and sports steering wheel. I've managed to remove the airbag and there lies a middle nut with 3 screws around it. I've unsrewed the screws as well as the nut and the steering wheel should be free to go, but still it's stuck and just won't move even though I've deperately tried to pull it off. Im wondering if there's something that I've missed...is that normal? I didn't want to struggle with it in case I break something and thought of looking for any possible answers here first. Thanks for any help guys.

once the airbag is removed ,all you do is undo the centre 15mm bolt, dont take the screws out or unplug any wires except the yellow airbag one or the clockspring on rear of steering wheel can unwind and be a mega pain in the arse to sort ,remove the steering cowling and follow the yellow wire to a plug just above clutch pedal on inner side of lower dash panel, simply unplug it and unhook the wire that goes through the ignition pats module on the ignition barrel ,then you must insert the ignition key and turn one click this releases the steering lock, simply wiggle from side to side and the whole steering wheel including airbag wiring etc will come free, doing it any other way runs the risk of trouble

thank you all guys, ive managed to remove the steering wheel

1-PD, I really wish u'd written earlier lolzzz, i went through the 'mega pain in the arse' part with that airbag wire thing. I unplugged the top yellow plug just fine, but there's no way that the other 2 black clips (one on top and one on other side) can be unplugged, they seem to be one piece fitted. I had no other alternative than to cut the dam wire , i was pissed off after much effort man lol. but i cut it in a way that it can be soldered again in future if ever....i will now check where you sed its plugged above the cluth pedal..thanks a lot all of you

Latest news The bosskit I have doesn't fit MK6 In my location it's quite rare to find bosskit for Ford as well provided that most ppl drive Japs...I was thinking of buying the whole MK6 steering wheel from an auction or scrapyard or something and then dismantle, cut the wheel to get the middle kit, work on it, polish etc and alternatively screw a sports steering wheel on it....does that sound doable?

Sounds like a right pain! Have you tried some UK companies that will ship abroad?

A popular escort forum in the UK is http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/.

Could be worth having a look through there or to see where other members got theirs from. Could also try the UK ebay? I'm at work at the mo so can't access ebay so I can't look for you. But try www.ebay.co.uk.

I've had a look on Ebay UK before, I did see 1 or 2 bosskits for MK6 but most of them users don't ship abroad As well I don't have a credit card lol Although I could arrange a money transfer, but the product might be sold by then lolzz. My luck

Mosher, did you inform your insurer that you have removed a standard fitment safety device ?, in case you haven't don't be surprised if in the event of a claim your insurance is invalid/voided, insurers really are getting tough these days, personally not before time is my opinion, this modification must be declared to insurers.
