problem with tracking
hi im new to this site and just wondered if anyone knows about the problem i have with my 1998 1.8 escort gti,i recently went to get tracking done but couldnt do it because they say something has been knocked or bent under car,had a look myself and couldnt see anything wrong eg suspension arm wishbone ect but d/side tyre is balled on inside, help!
they prob mean your track rod is bent and it will need a new one. best check with them exacly what is bent and needs replacing and get it sorted. tyres has worn like that because tracking is way out!
also car is chugging when i put my foot down in 2nd and 3rd gear could this be due to the new induction kit just fittef (k&n)just fully serviced car but boticed slight hole in manifold and i think this is probably the cause of it,fuckin car!
cheers mate will do that tomorow just hope its not gonna work out to exspensive lol cheers
As said should be able to see what is bent, use a straight edege if necessary, but bottom arms and track rods are the favourite, the track rods can simply be replaced by screwing into the rack end, very easy job, note we are talking about the track rod between the rack and the end joint.
It is also perfectly possible to straighten these, but should only be done with heat, ie glowing red, but if in doubt I would guess they would be about Ł20 or so new from fords.
