ive got a silver top zetec turbo in my focus, hit the limiter today and it started to missfire then cut out i started it up again and it sounded like it was fireing ok but there is now a tapping noise coming from the engine, anyone know what this could be? thanks
have you got plenty of oil in the engine as it could be the tappets or maybe a bent valve , but my fiesta rs 1800 bounces off the 7000 rev limiter every day
ill have a look under the cam cover and top up the oil if it needs it tomorrow, how can i check the tapits? and is there a way of checking the valves without taking the head off? cheers
You can check for a bent valve by doing a compression test, the zetec should be quite happy at the limiter all day long.
Most likely just a dodgy lazy hydraulic tappet.

Is it wise to ask what the limiter is set at first?
not too sure the rev counter goes to zero after 6000 think it might be somewhere near 7000 the dyno graphs i got go upto about 7 but suppose that doesnt say much.
