I've heard nothing wrong with standard, i ran an area six setup in mine, can't compare but worked very well through the revs.

If I were you I would just run it with the standard cams and see how you get on. I'm no authority but believe getting good power from a zetec turbo is fairly easy. I don't know your spec or what you are going to do with it , but the gearbox will become the weak link

standard 2.0 cams or a mix of standard 2.0 inlet and a 1.8 (105 PS) exhaust cam is a good choice

when i built my ZT i had a set of Piper custom grind cams to Cosworth BD10 spec and adjustable pulleys.

i have no idea about cam profiles etc, just went on recommendations at the time.
it made 397bhp and 386lbft on a T4 turbo.
it had more to go but never got the mapping finished

Standard cams will do over 400hp by that time your running oil pump risks, so unless your going for mega power, don't waste your dosh

I only run an aftermarket exhaust cam and I made 522 bhp , it's the old tale again about inlet manifolds and exhaust manifolds etc etc etc
You could probably gain a fair few bhp by adding custom cams but it all depends on your budget , cheap then stick with original cam but if you want to chuck a few hundred quid then the choice is yours.
Look at Paul Johnson zetec turbo made another 70 bhp with cams and a different turbo

Hi there just a quick question relating to cams are the black top ones the same as silver top? also are there any differences in the heads as building a turbo one using st170 block and have been told to use blacktop head but I already have a silvertop one on the shelf.

Silver top head on a blacktop bottom end or other way around is a total ball ache I would not bother . The st 170 head is the best flowing head of all the zetecs and has larger valves as standard so I would use that as st170 blacktops are the same engine with different heads and internal parts. Silver top is the early zetec and are totally different so mix and matching can be done but as stated above a real ball ache.

Cheers paul

hi mate

i have converted my focus 2.0 to rs ecu - they go in limp mode if the ecu cannot detect charge cooler circuit -

and then i ended up with an FRS mk1 re-shell - when the guy rebuilt it he built it with st170 digital climate , st170 fusebox loom in engine , dash BUT RS ecu loom - was still in limp mde all it life (hence why they had blown 2 egines)

You will need to get it unlocked / remapped - i got mine done at sabre now running 339 bhp 23 psi - even then he called me asked me if i knew my car had been in limp mode lol

You can just use the FRS m1k ecu loom with and focus loom you just have to get it remapped - doing a bluefin wont help either

Sabre will prob map a standard ford ecu to you turbo spec - but im guessing there some sortof limit?

The ecu just looks for a load ie the charge cooler relay. This is not hard to add in. And no need to map it out.

If you check the looms there are around 15 differances between Rs/St ecu’s with some work on an St loom you can run the Rs ecu fully functional.

The first thing that springs to mind is the St fuel pump driver modual. Cut the plug of and wire in a standard 40a relay. Add fuel return and upgrade the pump.
The Irmc plug can be chopped of and repurposed for boost solenoid and charge cooler relay.

And so on

oh ok is this why my pump runs constantly - when getting mapped with complete st170 loom and rs ecu loom was locked in limp mode - tried 3 different ecu's

everything works fine just have pump running constant - even mapper cudnt figure out but wsnt effecting anything so...
