Default YB 3DR Head problems - Advice Needed PLZ

I began bolting my turbo and exhaust manifold on today and came across a big problem. I had bolted everything back up then began to put the fluids in, then i notice the water coming out of one of the bolts on the exhaust manifold (Top one closest to bulk head), i removed the stud and bolt from the head and realised the threads were nackered on it, i replaced the stud but could not get it back into the head - it looks like the threads are shot and the previous person as possibly drilled to far into the head and drilled into a water pocket. I cannot get a stud back in and water drips from it.

Looking for advise on what to do next - i think i will need to get the head reconditioned but not sure if it can be welded or not as i have not had the head of yet

Anyone know of a company that would do a good job, possibly Rayland?

Any other ideas you have would be appreciated

cheers

Ben

I would get the hole welded up, redrilled and then a helicoil insert put in to prevent reoccurance, can be done no problem

cheers mate, had thought about that, do you think this would be enough to stop it reoccuring again - or possibly the welds may cause surrounding metal to crack with the heat ?????

No you will be alright, the head is generally heated all the way through before any welding comences, this ensure good flow when welding. As long as the correct wire is used you will be fine. It might be that the hole area may need to be milled out to get a got gob of weld in there then just machine it back to the original face then drill the hole in the correct place. My cousin has got his own business doing this kind of stuff, if you get stuck drop me a PM and i will have a word with him and get a price. The only shitter would be the postage.

thats great mate cheers for that, i have just spoken with another chap and he said you could possible drill out the hole, helicoil the hole - insert a new stud with stud lock and this should block any fluids coming through - do you think this would hold up, my mine concern is the fact the water pocket has been drilled into - not sure how serious that is ??

cheers

That would work but i think for all the work you have to go to get the head off etc, you want it to be done properly, you wouldnt want it to reoccur furthur down the line. I always say get it done right first time then you can forget about it. You could try it i suppose if you can do all that with the head on, if it fails then get it done properly.

i always think the same mate. I thought about trying this first and if it goes again then just to get the head off and get it welded. nothing to lose in trying it first and seing wat happens.
