Hi people i'm at the final stages of my zt build i'm using a 2mm decomp plate on standard pistons on an 1.8 brand new zetec block.
the question i have is it better to run 2 head gaskets or use a none setting high temp sealant on the block to decomp plate surfaces.
i'm not aiming for any higher than 220bhp.
what are peoples opinion on this any horror/success stories???
thanks in advance for any input.
cheers,
Phil
brief spec:
brand new 1800 zetec block

FRST charge carrier
ERST exhaust manifold(on adaptor plate)

megasquirt 2 v3.0
large front mount intercooler

Yes you want two MLS gaskets to seal as best as possible...
With regards to the rest of your spec.. seems a bit of a mis-match.. have you uprated your valve springs? If not you wont be going anywhere really..
The Nissan injectors don't fit in the zetec rail properly.. that is if you understand how o-rings are supposed to work..
You don't really need the 2L TB or cams.. 1.8 stuff is fine..

i changed the bottom o rings of the injectors in order for them seat properly in the zetec rail the tops were fine. i have not changed the valve springs as i aint gonna be running major boost if they cause a problem then i'll change them. i only used the 2.0l tb and cams as they came in a doner engine that i bought off flea bay for sump, pick up pipe and ally stat housing etc etc.
if valve springs are that importatant who makes a decent set and what sort of cash are they???
thanks for advice
cheers,
Phil

Phil2002- you can't get o-rings the right size, trust me I spent a loooooooong time looking. Well, not an ISO standard size, anyway. If the o-ring is tight in the groove on the injector, or isn't flush against the shaft, then it's not the right fitment.
You will need the valve springs above about 170bhp.. I know a guy who supplies some - pm me if interested.

i bought a 2mm decompression plate from ferriday engineering.and a felpro headgasket for my old black s2.it worked but when car went in to be set up at jamsport, jamie advised me to throw it away.reason i got it was because head had been skimmed way too much.it was sat on the block with some sealant and the head gasket laid on the top.in the end we put a different head on it and threw compression plate away.
think it would be better to buy low comp pistons or maybe have slight skim off the pistons if your on a budget mate.
the plate cost 160quid with the gasket,id rather have spent that towards new pistons tho really.

It'd be interesting to know which ones they are then?
