clutch release bearing question.....
I have just installed the new standard clutch onto my Mk4 XR3i engine, and also the release bearing onto the gearbox input shaft, as below
My question is does it need any lubrication/grease around the input shaft sleeve, where the clutch bearing slides, bearing in mind i dont want to contaminate the clutch plates etc etc, The Haynes manual says to put some "MOLYBDENUM DISULPHIDE" grease onto the splines, but mentions nothing about the sleeve

Yes you want to put a smear of grease on there, anything more is a waste as it gets scraped off and over time all the dust off the clutch plate will stick to it.
Also put a smear on the fork arms where they sit behind the bearing a carrier, and a smear on the bearing face where it touches the pressue plate springs.
You'd have to seriously go overboard with the grease to contaminate the clutch

On the splines is just to get the box back off easier, been a ford it'l probably last all of a few week so it wont matter.
It looks to me like the bearing case isn't metal in which case it won't need any grease.

And the bearing is made of metal, a plastic one wouldnt last long once the engine & clutch gets hot
I think he means that it will stop the shaft sticking to the clutch if it is greased ?
As safechav says use some proper grease, I put the grease into the splines then push the plate on and off a few dozen time then wipe away any excess, if you use proper grease it is anti fling anyway.
SPRAY WAX for motorcycle chains works better though!!

well a lot of people do use it but its become quite a common occurunce for the copper to get into the bearing race and then it just destroys itself, id urge you not to use it personally.
High temperature grease is what you want
