Yes you want to put a smear of grease on there, anything more is a waste as it gets scraped off and over time all the dust off the clutch plate will stick to it.

Also put a smear on the fork arms where they sit behind the bearing a carrier, and a smear on the bearing face where it touches the pressue plate springs.

You'd have to seriously go overboard with the grease to contaminate the clutch
