So straight edge across front of bell housing where it meets the block face. Ruler to front of input shaft is 11.8mm and that doesn't allow for the thickness of the ruler so easily 12 mm.

mine could only be 6.5mm max so yours is nigh on double so no wonder you couldn't bolt it up properly

Can you measure how much cosworth bell housing you have welded to the skyline box?

Mine is roughly 90mm cosworth casing

I wonder if Mark did mine differently? He seemed to think not and got a bit fed up (hence my apology thread) when I accidentally implied that it may be too long. Did you have to take any off yours? If not then you would have a longer bellhousing than me and that would mean I have less room for clutch and centre push.

If I need to take some off mine then I wonder if I could use a 1mm cutting disc in situ or if the box has got to come apart?

Only other solution is to measure my total bellhousing length against yours and coleys and compare.

It would explain why mine cracked as I would be pulling too hard on the bolts.

I could also have a laser cut spacer made up for 5 mm.

I am doubly glad you measured yours. Coley has said a few times that I might need to check but disn't have the measurement.

Yes, I have 90mm too of cossie and total length of bell is 4250mm from block face to where it meets the box which also includes about 20mm of what looks like a spacer or mounting flange.

405mm measured with a proper steel rule not a loose tape etc

This is machined face to machined face NOT to block face when bolted up with dust plate

What's yours measure?

I used a metal like yours and mine is bang on 400. Double checked with a tape and got 400 again. With the extra 5mm that would take me to 7mm on the spigot! Bugger! That would explain why I am really tight on the centre push and why I had probs bolting up and why I cracked it!

Thank you for taking the time to do those pics and measurements. I think I will be templating a spacer to be laser cut 5mm thick in ally! I guess I could use my spare dust plate and draw that on to MDf and see how that compares and the give that to the laser cutter...that or tip the box on its nose with a hole for the spigot and draw around unless I can find a technical drawing online for the mt75 bell?

Yup, mine is the same. Are you on an r33 v spec box? I think it is same as r32 anyway.

So I guess I need to either chop the spigot - this only works if I have enough room for the centre push OR make up a spacer ring.

It looks like there are mt75 drawings on line, it is just if the laser cutting guy is happy to use them and if they are correct, if not then it is template time.

If Mark MK Walker was better then I could buy another box and send him then bell to cut and re do for me.

I suppose short term is to stick in 2 or 3 dust plates and hope they done rattle....maybe I could drill them, puddle weld and machine back so they become 1?

Just a quick one, do you have the front bearing plate bolted to the box?
If not the input shaft can come out of the box easily by 10mm

At the moment it is off at the machine shop but I can tell it has always been out that far. I will double check, of course.

Plus the missing 5mm in the compared lengths of bellhousing confirms the same.

I spoke to Coley today and we agreed that 5mm spacer was a good bet so I cut up a desk shield for the bolt pattern in 2 parts and then copied that on to 2 pieces of 2mm steel and cut them to shape with the plasma then puddle welded them together and then linished them back so they now for a 6mm spacer. I will pick up my modified centre push mount on Monday.

I used a dust cover for the whole pattern and then cut it in to two and reduced the metal I did not need with the plasma cutter, then I traced around with the plasma on 2 sheets of 2mm steel and then plug welded through and linished back to flat, now I can put one bit in from above and 1 from below and remove it if I need to get to the clutch without moving the whole box too far. This gives me around 6mm of spacer bringing me back to the 450mm / 451mm to match MKs measurement of his box.

I will spray paint it black on a piece of card and then I can send the card off as a template and have them cut from billet ally.

If you ever need anything laser cut etc mate just drop me a PM I use quite a few different firms for laser cutting and would only take 10 mins to draw up something like your spacer in SW. Im only 20 mins from Guildford too

Many thanks to all 3 of you.

OMG I bolted the centre push in and just offered up the box and with the spacer on it just slipped in to place and was touching face to face on the spacer without any jiggling, it just went on, I nipped up the bolts and shone a torch through the holes and the centre push is pretty much bang on 5mm away from the clutch fingers. To say I am relieved and over the moon is an understatement.

My mate is picking up the carbon bonnet from spoox tomorrow as they are racing at time attack rockingam and that leaves me to finish the heatproof img on the tunnel (thanks again to Coley for the right foil) and then raise the engine and box back up as one whole unit. I think I will bleed the clutch whilst the engine and box are out though and just check that it is working fully.

I have all my zircotec coated items to bolt back on and run her up.

I think I have been unlucky on this one but now I have found the odd 5mm issue I am now hopefully clear to go.

The close ratio long box was my first choice and would have been in and done long ago, I was a bit put off by the cost.

Based on what I have tried so far the 2wd and 4wd is a huge bonus for the fun factor and once the conversion is 100% done a replacement box is dirt cheap. I am also considering a close ratio kit in a replacement box.

Not sure on the coil types, assumed they are Yaris ones but not sure, Mark Shead would need to confirm that as he fitted them.

The ecu is vipec, Mark Fitted and mapped it and Rod Tarry made the loom...it transformed the engine from the L8 it was on...it is just soooo much better.

Good to see it back together. When you reckon you will have it running?

Never seen a blue coating before you going for a smurf look?
