no, just go straight to a specialist insurer
adrian flux insure my turbo'd cabrio reasonably priced too, all mods declared
when I was looking for a car I first spotted a turbo converted escort bonus, website gave me a quote but cabrio I've got came back a lot dearer of the website search quote so I phoned them up and they sorted the quote to the same as the escort bonus turbo price, so I my advice is give them a ring, infact they will phone you

If the engine CC is the same i can't see why police would have a big problem with it. If in your case though i think police mite be funny about it because you'd be paying less road tax with it only being a "1.3". I'm with lux and have had a engine swap and they were fine about it, the more mods you've got the better, normally brings the price down.

as long as you declare your mods to the insurer imo you should be fine, infact i phoned flux to check how much ontop of all existing mods the addition of a fmic and cosworth managment would increase my premium by and they kindly advised me it would be the same price

if its for a stock 1.3 escort with a undeclared turbo engine you won't have insurance if the shit hits the fan

That's what I thought, the RST figure seems right to me as it was just over that on my last one a year ago.
My current company said no to me, they don't cover full conversions, only the engine, it seems the S1 bodykit tipped them over the edge....

Officially, there are no special requirements for getting a safety certificate for an electric conversion. My experience (and that of the handful of other conversion owners in Ontario that I know) is: provided all the original safety equipment is in place and operational, your vehicle should pass.
