Default FAO tuners etc!!!!!!

...just been out setting the boost on my old girl got it how i wanted it (on Ahmed stage 3 Chip, not running the MSD due to software version not liking my car fooked lamda i think so i got a 4k rev limit )

Right so i set boost up and its mint..BUT i a while ago the car misfired at too much boost...so i set it now to where its fine...but i was thrashing it and it cutout...with all my monitering bits i quickly found no fuel pressure which led me to find the 20amp fuse blown...so now know the misfire was due to fuse rating obviously having a connery So no harm due fault quickly found.....my question is what fuse should it have or is it normal to up the rating?..Or have i a fault?

......no probably not good to up the fuse but maybe it has the wrong rated fuse....that why i asking here I would assume though it comes down to wire rating...i may have 50 amp wire for all you know

Phil,

Check the wiring, especially the earth for the pump.
If this is corroded it will cause a high resistance, which will draw a high current possibly blowing the fuse......

Dont forget, the pump power is fed from a relay as direct wiring would require very heavy cables........so check the relay hasn't melted either..........

hope that helps.

My fuse is 30A Phil & as you came onto my site & claimed more Power than mine i suggest yours should be Higher. Try a 100A that should hold it.
Seriously, uprating to 50A cable & rewiring the pump is just about the first thing you do when uprating a Cossie as the volt drop as standard is alarming. Still as the DIY king you would know that.

get a bent nail and put it accross the terminals mate

or look in the owners manual of the car to see what the standard fuse rating is!

i think the escorts even have the ratings on the fuse box cover?!

EDIT: My saph 4x4 owners manual says they use a 15 amp fuse mate HTH?

Best thing you can do phil is run a fresh live up to the pump, of a decent grade wire, and put a relay off the existing wiring.

pee vee, depends if its a standard pump or not.

If its an uprated one it may have a higher current draw.

Can anyone have a look at what fuse is in there holder next to the yellow relay?!

...Chip even a grp a 044 wont take more than 13 amps!...and i just blew a 20 amp on an unknown pump ..Couple of times previous i noticed a loss of fuel pressure whilst driving normal..i guess it could be earthing somewhere..best i go out and get it all apart

Worse still of course phil, is that misfire you had might be nothing to do with the lambda might be due to it leaning out.

You got a wideband in it?

If not, you seriously want to get one mate, no tuned turbo motor should be without one!

Daviet aint had the car long so i aint got a clue what pump its got...and as its a pain in the arse to change i am happy running stage 1 at the mo so if its std no probs...when of course my other engine goes in it will be uprated!

Chip....no the lamda deffo aint working (checked) and on the MSD chip i get a 4k rev limit and no boost ..on the ahmed it dont care about trivial errors which is my kinda chip ..At lower boost it was fine like 1 bar but if you up it i was getting problems with misfires deffo a fuel pump wiring issue now as my Saff has a 30amp fuse and this was running a 20amp i think it was under rated for the higher boost pressure causing problems...i have also changed the relay too and noted its a 40 amp job...so i think i sussed it...as Rodney above pointed out ...I think i may have just got a way with a serious melt down!...Remember folk its not the ECU Chip that blows your engine its the items around it!!!!

...of course the main point here being no 4th or 5th gear was used for testing...and its highly unlikely you will melt down in 3rd

why is it unlikely to have a failure in 3rd
i thought it could let go in anygear if something aint right
r/r use 3rd gear for power runs and cars go bang on them often enough

The longer an engine runs lean for the more likely to melt down.

You cant be at full throttle for very long in the first few gears due to the fact you accelerate too quickly and run out of revs.

Still perfectly possible to cause serious heat damage in the lower gears just more difficult than in the higher ones.

Yep, if you are on and off the throttle constantly its perfectly possible to melt things.
But one would hope if phil was testing it then he wasnt on a road rally at the time

Phil

mine runs 20 amp fuse for my 044 pump with no problems.

but i'm runnin new wirin thats rated for 30 amp.

i think a 044 pump, even wen it locks out its only 18amps load, so you most have another fault.

check wirin, electric system, and even pumps not faulty.

i can give you a phone number for a bosch dealer
