I don't know if anyone can remember but I'm sure there was a 1000 hp yb on here either for sale or in a chat thread
It's a while ago just wondered if anyone remembers it as I can't find it and wanted to take a look
I think it was a drag engine

I saw a JEMS built engine that was at the Autosport show one year. I haven't been for donkeys years and did start to look through my old pics until photobucket fucked me off for using adblocker

Theres been a few past 1000hp now, probably the most well known is the ag focus, engine built by harvey Gibbs, it made 989hp on engine dyno and 1000+ on rolling road. Properly takes abuse on track too and has run low 9s at Elvington on a damp track.
it would be good too see what a big capacity one would do, as Im sure its possible too go to 2.7 litre with the smith and jones block.

another one worth looking at is the tsakitas performance escort, probably spelt that wrong, a Greek drag escort, still runs an iron 200 block claims 1300hp, and did a 8.2@180 on its first 1/4 mile run.

As stated above there are a few tuners that have taken the engines over 1000bhp or very close. Theres a massive difference between a drag engine thats a full throttle for 8 to 10 seconds and a race engine on and off power lap after lap. I must say the engine that really impresses me is the harvey gibbs/ag motorsport one as its just unreal how fast the car is . Its a super all round package and can do drag , track basically everything . I know its a smith and jones alloy block with one of there big ccm heads , big turbo . I think it ran a t72 turbonetics turbo originally as ian howell let harvey borrow his turbo after his duratec engine failed but not 100 % sure on this
I bet you dont get much change from 30k for a harvey engine , which is not to bad as julians godfreys rallycross engines are 60k
I talk to steve westbury and hes a machinist for smith and jones and they have just started making a early 205 cast iron block again upto 2.7 litres with all the added strenghtening areas designed into the block like the alloy block.
price is the same Ł3900+vat.
He also said they use a very high grade of casting metal and in his words the blocks take some machining.

Theres a fast ford feature from a few years back on it and there was a thread on here about it years ago. There was talk of an even more powerful engine being built as it went up against Andy forests 7 second impreza at knockhill and got beat. Its not been used for a while now, also a YouTube video of the rolling road power run.

I searched YouTube and found the focus

Karl there’s some great videos on you tube of Andy giving that f
thing death round knockhill, tbh it has been very reliable considering it’s only used for circuit racing.

I would imagine it's alot easier keeping the head sealed with a Smith and Jones motor compared to a modded old 200 block, as with everything in life the only limit is ones wallet
its interesting Smith and Jones are now doing a cast engine, why based around a 205 and not a 200 though ?
I wonder if they will be even tougher but heavier than the alloy one ?

I think it’s based on an rs500 cast iron block but has a through stud design, would imagine it being allot stronger than the cast aluminium version. Might be built for historic race cars are ultimate power drag engines.

Correct on both areas , based on the early rs500 block but with the extra added areas the alloy block has so stronger than the rs500 block. They can also do the through stud head bolts.
they have only machined a few so far but with historic racing taking off in a big way that's where most are being sold.
ive asked Steve which are stronger and his honest oplnion is they don't know . He said they have seen a lot of Harvey's engines seeing close to 1000 bhp and he posted a picture today and the block had jge penned on the side so he uses them as well.
i personally think the cast iron block will be stronger but a lot heavier.

I think any business to do with producing old original parts are be going to be in demand because of historic racing. Now there's a proper race series again everyone's getting the cosworth racing again.

They look amazing kinda wish I went down the through stud block route with mine wouldn’t be far off what mine is costing, bet the sump won’t leak with how perfect the block base has been machined.
