ultimate spec yb turbo 1010bhp!!!

Good eve to all on Passion Ford,
Last week i dyno tested my alloy blocked old spec headed 2litre turbo yb and got some interesting results?
This has been my own project for over 6 years now and has taken all my knowledge and skills to make this happen.
This engine has been my own personal goal and i have found it very interesting to see how to push the old yb into the unknown?
I built a very smilar specked motor that went to Cyprus many years ago that dynoed at 1097bhp this created many mixed reactions and lots of reserved judgments.
So i have built this engine and dynoed tested it here in the uk, and yes it can be done!!
I must say with out the new alloy block this would of not been posiable!! as people who have pushed ther own ybs to big power know the cast blocks will break what ever you do to them i know as i have found out.
The power from this engine comes from head and cam control the rest is a battle to make it all stay alive.
Every part of this engine has been custom made and designed.
1) Dry sump 5 stage drag race pro stock( custom 3 stage pan)lots of internal scraper and windage.
2) Crank ??stroke but special material and heat treat ment and coatings
3) Rods Custom spec very special bolts and coatings
4) Pistion ?? bore again coatings and special ring pack and pins
5) Harmonic damper custom made and very important !!
6) Now this is where lots and lots of hours on the flow bench different port sizes, valve sizes head and stem and material, valve seats, material angles
7) Cams again custom made to our specs and special coatings
8) Valve spring very important area, make and material, nothing from the uk here!! we learnt this many years ago with my n/a motors that pulled 9500rpm
9) Inlet mis copy but we worked very hard to flow it over 800bhp
10) very trick throttle body (bmw f1 off the 1500cc turbo motor)
10) injectors 1750cc per cylinder
11) turbo gt42 rs
12) motec engine ecu Coil on plug
So thats a breif spec, every thing else stays with me.
We ran the motor to 8500 and 9000rpm on vp import fuel and then an vp c 85
full boost 2.8 bar
I know this will case all sorts of reaction but to re cap
1) Its a development engine used to see what makes the yb tick
2) I wanted to see how much it would take to do this power out put
3) I wanted to be the first guy in the uk to do this
4) Yes it would be only for drag racing but with a turbo swop eg gtx 35 it will run 700bhp
and pull from 4000 to 9000rpm and make a very strong race engine or gtx 30 and run 500bhp awesome street motor,
5) So the engine i self will take over 1000bhp with the correct turbo, or less with a different turbo.
Regards
Jon Edwards
I will post dyno sheets and pics very soon!

Why is the spelling, grammar and grasp of English so poor yet after you sign off it reads properly?
Also by Cypress I take it you mean Cyprus? Can I asked who done the work as my cousin does a lot of computer equipment installation for dynos for tuners and would know if a YB was done as they get hardly none out there.

Quick! Slap it in a saff and run it up brunters. Make it a white F plate otherwise you'll be creating a whole new record of car colour and year :cry
Seriously though, you say drag racing only. How could you extend the life of the engine or find a compromise above 700 bhp for example?

Nice one that's a huge achievement! Be interesting to see how it performs in a car on the road and if it holds together
Annoying thing about threads like this is all the knobs who turn it into a rod bashing thread

first nice and impressive result ![god](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/dieu.gif)
on the jemsracing site is a YB with 1092bhp and 10,700 rpm rev limit. so it seems possible even to trump the 10k easily.
No wonder we talk about the mighty YB. ![god](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/dieu.gif)
Pikes Peak 1000bhp 2.2ltr. Cosworth (no clue what engine but it says cosworth)
Not to forget the EsCos monster 1360 hp (1115 hp at wheels) from greece (Vlachos).

what billet alloy block is fitted? 2500cc? wonder how much output it would take with the 2700cc billet block? The less cylinder capicity the stronger the block (related to thickness only) if it comes to high boost, isn't it?? The 2700cc is more for N/A I guess.
As I said before impressive result.

To Jems
Welcome to Passion Ford .
I see its the new ally block & i agree much over 840bhp is struggling on a YB Block. The harmonic damper is a route we are discussing at this time in fact this week ive noted you think its important. Interested in the graph & will overlay my own to see the differences as we used the same Turbo but obviously much less ignition to save the 200 block.
If you do intend a Topspeed run i would love to be present as it should run close to 220mph if all the Power is used. I would relish the challenge to pit my own car against it if that can be arranged or is in your plans.
Cheers & congrats
Rod

Yeah I've got a 4x4 saph you could bolt this into to run it in,I'm sure the mega strong standard 4x4 box would handle the power all the way from the pit lane to the start then shit itself!!!!
It is white though!!!
Incredible figures, well done to all involved.

Looking at the comments i realise few actually realise the compromise of a 1000bhp engine. Heres a couple of graphs for discussion ( please no aggro). Its plain to see below 7.7k its not much of a contest the Torque destroyed by Big ports & exhaust cam. One is of course a drag engine the other a road engine so its horses for courses. Take your pick. They both use the same Turbo.

I'd love to see this in a car, and if a race with Rods could be arranged that would be awesome!

good eve to all at passion ford
Thank you very much for the positive comments, its nice to know you all see the hard work and effort gone into this motor.
ok Answers to a few comments.
1) yes i am fensports engine bulder
2) yes it was on knight racings dyno in daventry
3) The block is a smith and jones 2 liter block which has been kept to a small bore to help
stop bore flex,
4) i Have no intentions of doing top speed runs, as just doing this engine project was hard enough!!!
5) the damper on this engine was not just a v8 damper it was custom built in the usa, you have to fill in so much info to get what you want, but its well worth the hard work and trials to get the results at high rpm and longer life out of all the engine parts.
ok Graph info
If you look at the graph it is very progressive thats because we controlled the boost as we went up the rpm ,
we started boosting at 5400 then 1 bar from 6500 2 bar from 7800 and 2.8 at 8500
so we will not show monster torque at low rpm we mapped for gentle power to obtain the magic numbers!!
And we mapp like this in the cars, to make them more drivable just look at the graph and imagine driving it???? smooth power delivery and steady.
We have been working over in Norway with very big turbo power cars and got them all to go faster with less power and less low end boost Thats around a race track.
And yes more power is there as this spec goes to 10000rpm and we have very little back pressure at 8500 with 2.8 bar and we used c 85 which is Green!!! and wow very good this again is somthing we learnt over in Norway e 85 is pump fuel over there and its cheap and gives a mimimun of 80bhp increase in power!!!!!!!!!
Ok so that leads me onto the final thing this engine is up for sale for somebody to do a top speed run with ?? or just to own the most power full yb at the moment??
Please ring or e mail for serious details only!!

Great to see people investing time/money in things like this just for developement and interest, proper petrolheads.
I think trying to claim the 'old' yb has still got it is stretching the truth a bit. There nothing old about this engine. Is it the future for the yb enthusiast though?? Time will tell i guess.
You always here people banging on about area under the curve, thinks its plain to see Rods setup is truly mental. Goes to show theres definatly more than one way to skin a cat.
