Default Traceing a vehicles owner

I am hopeing to track down the owner of a corvette stingray my dad owned 30 years ago, I was driven in the car as a baby and id like to buy it for centimental reasons, it was offered back to my dad but I cant find any paperwork from the offer to dad.

Is there anything I can do ?

You can fill in a form and send it to the dvla, you will need a valid reason though. Is there any UK corvette owners clubs you could try?

You cannot have the info as to who the owner is now, if you own the vehicle you can apply for copies of the previous V5's think it costs Ł5 or it used to
But you must own that vehicle to do it
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, as suggested above you could try the owners club

Only if you own the vehicle tho

can you imagine if the DVLA gave out the address of any vehicle you asked for, it would be a field day for thieves and dumped wives/partners to find out where someone is living for example!

http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk/

Try the reg number in the DVLA vehicle check to see if it's taxed / in use first.

Is it any of these:

No, not only.
As an earlier post said, if you have a valid interest.
i,e the vehicle was involved in an incident with you, may have been a witness to something, abandoned on your land etc.

Parking companies and others can have direct electronic access to the info.

https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...266_210515.pdf

Reasonable cause when DVLA can release information

By law, DVLA must protect your personal details held on the registers. DVLA can however, under Government regulations, disclose information from the vehicle register to those who can demonstrate reasonable cause’. Enquiries must give full details of why they want the information and how it will be used.
Some of the circumstances considered to be reasonable cause include:
  • matters of road safety
  • events that occur as a result of vehicle use
  • the enforcement of road traffic legislation
  • the collection of taxes
  • Reasonable cause – the reasons behind DVLA releasing information
Information from DVLAs vehicle records

DVLA has to evaluate very carefully the reasons for the request as well as the way in which the information will be used before disclosing information. This means that information on the vehicle register can be lawfully made available for a variety of purposes, to the public and private sector bodies. A fee is charged to cover the cost of dealing with requests under the reasonable cause provisions.
Information can be sent to:
  • the police
  • local authorities
  • car parking enforcement companies
  • solicitors
  • finance houses
  • property managers
  • private individuals who can provide reasonable cause for needing the information

Shows you obviously don't know what your on about. You didn't have to own car at all, I saw a car when I was on holiday it was a mk1 fiesta with reg number FOK 1T I said to my mrs I'd love that plate, I contacted Dvla when back off holiday and they charged meŁ5 for owners details so I could contact them regarding buying the plate. There was also a car that hit me when car was parked up. I was in car and they drove off, so again I contacted DVLA paid Ł5 and they sent me details so I could contact them regarding accident. It was about 20yr ago so may have changed.BUT YOU DEFFO COULD

Or it'd be great for scam operators who wanted to send out fines to vehicle owners for them doing fuck all !! Which amazingly then turns into some legally binding bullshit if they dont pay

But the DVLA would never support such a thing by selling our personal information....would they ?

Don't know why I'm replying to an aggressive keyboard warrior but I do know what I'm talking about, a valid reason has to be a very valid reason, trying to buy the plate or the car is nowhere near enough of a reason try it the dvla will soon fuck you off
Also you say you did it 20 years ago, try now both your previous reasons are no grounds to give the info out nowadays, even police checks are tightly controlled and the police can and have gone to jail for misusing them

I did it to find my series 1, I originally told them I was a previous owner and I wanted contact current owner to maybe purchase back and restore etc. They could check history and I told them my address at the time. They sent me back my form and cheque for the fee and said it wasn't a good enough reason. I sent another one and told them the car was on my property and that I wanted to contact owner to remove it. Came back within a week with full details of address and owner.

I tried again for another car recently but this time they wanted photographic proof.
