sapphire RS Engine
Hi Guys,
I am getting a sapphire RS bare shell delivered later this week, that I will be doing a bare shell restoration to tidy it all up.
I am thinking of putting a non YB engine in it and using it as my daily car.
is it sacrilege to put a non YB engine in a sierra RS.
I know it wouldn't be worth as much, but im not to worried about that as I wouldn't plan on selling it.
Im currently thinking of a zetec turbo so would still be a 2l turbo engine, just not a cosworth YB.
any thoughts.

Zetec turbo would be the way to go money wise, like Glenn says ybs go for really strong Ł and for peace of mind it will have to be pulled apart and checked at the very least where as what you will spend building a zetec from scratch seems to be the more cost effective way to make the same sort of power. I've been looking into this for quite a while and after my weddings out the way in September I'm buying a brand new crate zetec from ford as a starting point and taking it from there. Won't be cheap but will be cheaper than a yb build from scratch I HOPE

Plus a more modern engine should be better and cheaper to maintain compared to a YB.
The zetec is getting on now but still a lot younger than a YB.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking of doing it.

I would love to put the 3.7 v6 from the cheap American mustang.
They also use it in the ginetta g55. 300bhp standard and easy to get up to 380.
I was looking at putting on in my track saph but I think cost wise getting one from America would be the problem.
Also the 3.5 v6 ecoboost twin turbo would be cool but the direct injection would cause a few management problems.

I think second hand YB would be best. I know lad with 480bhp zetec turbo owes him bout 12grand for engine . I'd go 2.0 ohc with twin 45s n lairy cam. Doesn't need management then and pennies to build n maintain n normal sierra 5speed box. I had this in my mk2 rs2000 n it flew

not better really, the cams are a bit tamer in the scorpio and the 8v bottom end is the same as the 16v one only differences between scorpio engine and rs2k engine design are to do with them being mounted different ways round. the heads are interchageable, you can also put the 2.0 head on the 2.3 to get higher compression.

I've had this same dilemma, I've got a cossie and cossie rep with a 2.0 dohc (great smooth engine but slow) and I was thinking what engine could I to add more power. Thinking zetec turbo but to do right would cost the same as YB, Scorpio 2.3 bottom end and rs2000 head (couldn't find any parts forsale so could imagine it being exspensive and still rather slow).
So in the end I decided on fitting a yb as I love the engine and know a little about it aswell. I'm collecting engine parts with spare money so far I've got a 4x4 head and I'll use the ecu and wring loom and turbo off my cossie when I upgrade them on that. Then I know I've got a good reliable tuneable platform.
