I had a Focus ST 3dr for the first 6years with my son no problems what so ever with it being a 3dr.
The wife also feels the same, I even have a Smart car and Porsche Boxster and never had a problem with them either.

I had a 3dr mk5 golf gti both used in rear facing and forward facing phases never had issues.

At the moment have the focus St and no issues again. 5 door this time.

Alot will depend on car seat, I used Recaro's and obviously vehicle size.

My daily is a 5dr and find it a lot easier to put the baby in...she has been in a few 3dr cars and I find it a bit more of a faff to squeeze the seat in!

my youngest was brought up in a capri until the age of 4 and then I went into my RS16i when my 2nd came along, only thing that helps with extra doors is when they are older and able to open door and windows

Lifting a baby in a baby carrier into and out of the back of a 3dr car is one of the main reasons new mothers/fathers get back problems, beware.
If you have the choice the answer is plain..........
Even as they get older, you don't want to be having to get out to let kids out... That's the reason I have a 5dr focus ST and not a focus RS as my everyday car.
Common sense.

not that bad in a 3 door, but much easier in a 5 door.
just not having to step into the rear of a car with the front seat folded forwards is a bonus every time you have to strap the little ones in.

My sig answers that question

My mum and dad always had 3dr cars, they had a mk1 cavalier coupe when I was born. My mum had loads of back problems, doc said it was probably from lifting in and out of the back seat!

When my daughter was younger she was in a maxi cosi axiss car seat that swivels, piece of piss then.

generations of parents managed just fine with 3 door small cars and several kids with no rediculous levels of back problems.

5 door cars/GayPV's/chelsea tractors etc are merely for convenience if youve 2 kids or less.

I have two children now 7yrs and 3 yrs. I've been through the whole kiddy seat vs Car thing in numerous cars.
I'm fairly tall and without question always found it easier in my wife's 3dr's (Mk 4 Golf and e46 M3) than my own daily drivers (Porsche Cayenne, Forester STI, X5, and XF Sportbrake).
The reason I found it easier in the 3drs is that when they're small I can hold them close to me, step into the back of the car facing the child seat and plonk them in and do up their belts. If it's raining, so much the better because you're inside facing them whilst sorting them out rather than standing outside getting wet.

Kiddy seats tend to be fairly deep. In a 5dr you find that you're having to bend over at an awkward angle (at least for my 43yr old back) and post them in. By the time you're trying to avoid their bum catching on the edge of the seat, and making sure their not head-butting the back of the headrest of the front seat, it's a fairly tricky task. By the time they're three and hitting a decent weight/height it's not easy. Another problem with the 3+ yr seats which use the regular car seat belts is that the kid seats are so large that the bases are often on top of the seat belt socket which is a total pain in the behind when you're leaning inside trying to do it for them. Facing them inside the 3dr makes this loads easier..
Just my two penneth - good luck with it!

Depends on the car, in the Focus Rs it was ok with my son wasnt easy but was ok.. In my M3 it was harder as the roof line was lower.. Much easier in a 5dr car but depends alot on ur height etc im 6'3" which doesnt help lol

5 doors are much easier to live with on a daily basis than 3 door, getting my little lad in the back of my Escos is a proper PITA to be fair. It's a 30 second job sticking him in the back seat of his mums 5 door Golf

Another vote for 5 door here. Much easier than messing around climbing in.

There's a lot of diff answers but I've had a bad accident an damaged my back an neck, brain injury an have shit balance now. So I think it's guna be hard work in a 3dr car thinking about it. An I don't wana be ages getting a baby in an out either an I think I'd rather the extra doors tbh for baby sake.

So far nobody has given me enough reasons to change away from a 3 Dr and with a 5 Dr there are window buttons and door handles for kids to touch.
I recomend borrowing a baby and 3/5 door cars and trying it out for yourself.
My sister had two kids and a fiat panda 3dr no problems there and everyone says buy a x5 piece of junk

I had a mk2 fiesta when i had my first, then the two i have with claire have been in a mk2 clio, and saxo. All 3 doors no issues. Bizzarly my old man offered us his old passat estate when our two were still in buggies. The buggies wouldn't fit across the boot so took up too much room diagonally, The clio and saxo were both fine.
Claire now has a 5 door, the main issue i can see when using a carry seat would be the shorter doors.
This may sound daft, but no rear doors also means the child is safer from being snatched too. (hopefully unlikely but you never know)
