Hi, could the rear stabiliser link bush be worn and allowing excessive movement?

The gearboxes can be picked up cheaply through uk ebay, if a seller would be willing to ship the item to you.

Ive had this happen, but we fabricated a new torque link bracket using other bolts on the gearbox.

The first time it happened it could have weakened the webbing on the gearbox. But again, we found excessive wear on the drivers engine mount. A call to the local ford parts dept indicated this is quite a common issue with the mk1 focus.

we didn't replace the gearbox, it should still be feasible to use other mounting points for the torque link.

Thanks for your input. I assumed the problem would be only with the st170 with the 6spd box.. do you have any other advice for me in hindsight of your experience? e.g. which part/other bolts on the gbox you used to fabricate a new mount, and have you had any problems since? cheers

its pretty obvious when you look at the gearbox which holes to use, as there aren't many avail. there should be two avail to the right of the original bolt hole.

we fabricated a bracket and used this to mount the original mount using a bolt straight through and nut on the opposite end.

because we used a heavy duty piece of metal, its plenty strong.

I've just bought a 170.. 04 plate.. Don't think it's ever been passed the 5k rev range.. Fuel pump is a little sticky too when low on fuel.. Would a swirl pot solve that problem...? And as for the imrc switchover I think the flaps may be sticking open.. Is this an easy fix..?

The fuel pumps on the mk1 focus in general are notorious for giving up too, usually shown in a jerking motion on acceleration and/or with low fuel

You'd need to check the trouble codes to see what is logged, but normally if the switchover doesn't occur its down to the IMRC module. which is expensive from ford.

At the min the only code showing on the dash test is 9318. Low battery voltage. Am I right in believing that a faulty fuel pump wouldn't register the eml? And as for the flaps.. If I turn the engine off and on all is ok. So would that fault be registered on the dtc?
