Default Balancing - worth it?

About to buy a brand new AP Racing organic clutch kit (2wd Cossie) and brand new Burton alloy flywheel with new ring gear.

Worth getting balanced up together or not?

Experiences welcome thank you,

Ben

I would say definately balance the flywheel, if the clutch can be balanced on its own then go for it but don't bolt it together and do it because if the clutch is out of balance and you get it done together, when come to change the clutch next time the new one won't be balanced to the flywheel so will need the complete assembly doing again or it will be miles out.

oh god yes it is! OK mine is a CVH and I got a steel fly wheel from Burton instead of a cast iron from ford. makes things a lot smoother, I went as far as getting it all balanced though! Pistons, con rods, rings, crank, pulley as well as the fly wheel too! Coventry balancing has a good reputation! I think they have been taken over now though. but they are still there and did me a damn good job!

Am on board with getting a whole bottom end balanced... not quite what I'm asking - but a brand new quality clutch and a brand new high quality purpose made flywheel I'm not on board completely.

People with experiences of balancing clutch and flywheel (just clutch and flywheel, and that similar to above, not old manky ones) welcome, thank you.

It's normally best to have it bolted to your crank but as your engine is built up its really a no go

As a machinist with access to a dynamic balancing machine, i'd say yes, balance it all! You'd be surprised how many expensive flywheels and clutch covers are a mile out. We've just balanced a HKS 200sx stroker crank and it was so bad you could feel the vibrations in the workshop floor!

Get the crank done, then balance the pulley, then the flywheel, then finally the cover plate. Balance the rods end-to-end and balance the pistons too.
