too cheap to be true, no detail, no feedback and probably a picture nicked off a forum or ad elsewhere. External email address too...
I bet someone with more money than sense still wires him a hefty deposit and wonders where their car is!!

Its a scam guaranteed, it looks exactly the same as every other scam.

No feedback, external email, minimal details and wants half of its actual value. etc.

Send him a message, he'll be away with work and his friend will deal with it, or he wants a large deposit etc

if you have, you are very silly

my advice is, assuming you paid via paypal as goods, open a dispute now. if you havent i think its fair to say you've lost that money

your mate in the trade is talking bollocks, these scams happen all the time, you would think we would hear about all these cars getting stolen straight after they go up for sale....

what happens is they take a deposit with some excuse that someone is coming to see it soon and will need a large deposit or full price to secure it, the money is paid and the seller disappears.
people are so caught up in the idea that they are getting an absolute bargain they happily pay up.

why would they bother stealing the car when they can take multiple large deposits and not have to do any real work/risk getting caught.

eBay Motors member Catherine Hudson, as the Seller, initiated a new transaction through eBay Buyer Protection program and registered Jessica Redfern, as the Buyer.

Complete the transaction in 5 easy steps:
Buyer and Seller agree on the transaction terms and a selling price. Seller contacts eBay Customer Support with the transaction details;
eBay Customer Support accepts the transaction and offers purchase protection to the Buyer (if the transaction is declined, no further action is required from neither Buyer or Seller);
The Buyer receives an invoice and sends the payment to eBay Customer Support. After the payment is verified by eBay Customer Support, the Seller will initiate the shipping.
The Buyer receives the vehicle and has five (5) business days to inspect it. If it is as described and as agreed, the Buyer should accept the vehicle. If he refuses it, the Buyer must ship the vehicle back to the Seller expense;
After the inspection period is over (5 business days), the Buyer must contact eBay Customer Support with the result of the inspection. If the Buyer accepts the vehicle, the payment will be sent to the Seller within three (3) business days.

so are ebay saying all is ok and the buyer is insured against £4100 fraud? Thats as long as you follow propper ebay channels of course, plus you cant place a bid on a classified ad- so all payment is going to be outside of ebay really.
