golf gti 20v turbo, boost pressure?
i know i'm asking in the wrong place but i know a lot of you guys know these cars well
but i've recently bought 1 of these on a 2000 w reg
car is realy tidy and nice to drive so i'm gonna keep it for a while
but i think it feels like it should be a bit quicker than it is
its only a 150bhp model so i'm not expecting to much
it just feels like it barely boosts, it does make some boost so no leaks or duff turbo etc
but i was wonderering what is the standard boost pressure meant to be on these?
and is it ok to turn it up a bit? if so how much is ok before it blows up?
i havent stuck a boost gauge on it yet to check, so it might be ok
i'm maybe just to used to my other cars(420bhp 2wd saph & 413bho evo 7)
i've never had a golf turbo before, i used to have a gttdi 130, but that had been mapped so pulled really well and i feel that even that diesel would have left this current 1 for dead
anyhow thanks for any help with this
thanks jamie

I have the AUQ (11psi) 180 bhp engine in the skodi and that feels quick but not that fast and quite a flat power curve ,so if your going from 400+ to 150 its going to feel like a moped .

100k's nowt for these engines. Get it remapped and enjoy.
Get it serviced and running spot on first, there prone for all sorts of little issues, dv's, n75 valves, maf's, leaking vacuum pipes, boost leaks etc.

the car drives perfect, got full vw history, just serviced less than 1000 miles ago etc
tbh honest i dont think theres anything wrong with it,
i'm just too used to having a bit more power/torque
i'm gonna stick a boost gauge on it to check but i didnt know how much it should be running
thanks for all the help and answers so far guys

My ibiza cupra has had the secondary air injection and the other n valve that sits on the rocker cover deleted. But I thought the n75 valve is the boost solenoid and you need it ?
Mines a ayp so I'd assume that's the same as the ops golf. On a ko3 as well.
Mine peaks at 21psi at about 3.5k and by 5 grand it's down to a bar ish. By the red line it's dropped to about 10psi.
Makes it feel like a derv. Was thinking about trying to ditch the n75 valve and going for an electric boost controller to try and stop the boost creeping of as much

where you work Ronnie?
i dunno why people bang on about N75/710 valve must be in place, fuck off....... throw them in the bin!
get it mapped, drivability, MPG and performance are excelent, have a go of one from a personal company, most will give you a 7day trial of their software

Ours all still plumbed up as factory, just air filter, miltek with Decat and remap.
Works spot on and never wants for nothing, which is why it stays reliable.
I have a personal stock of boost solenoids and standard dump valves.
Have thought about the n75 delete but while it works and I have new spares don't see the need.

why do you have a stock of boost solenoids/DVs if they work fine and are reliable?
dont make sense!
been doing this shit for years, mapping golfs/A3`s/4`s bin the fuckers and smile!

Because these are the only things that cause me issues on and off and I can get free replacements.

Done the dv got a APR r1 and a good service, and would like to know why you delete the n75 cos surly with a remap its ok to have the ecu control boost and have it not done just by vac signal ?

The N75 is the boost control solenoid. Early versions were a little temperamental but any current version is fine. By removing it you remove all boost control from the ECU which is never a good idea.
