Default Turbo's! 400bhp ish, recommendations?

So I managed to buy another dud turbo, not doing very well there! I think buying new is the only way to go now.
With 400bhp on the mind (non Ford), where are people going for turbos these days? Bort Warner? Needs to handle quite high boost pressure as these wheezy 8v aren't the most efficient lumps.

Looking at £500 top though.

Ben.

I think you may struggle to get a borg warner for that budget, seen a couple of quite large holset turbos go fairly cheap on ebay and the like a few times, seem to be quite popular with the Volvo crowd in Norway.

Yeah was going the Holset route initially anyway, but the one I bought turned out to be shagged! Needs to be a HY35 really as the HX has a monster exhaust housing and twin scroll which is no use to me!

when I was selling t3/t4 turbos i used one myself on a saph aswell at stage 3, I was buying from ssautochrome and I never had 1 comeback out of alot of sales.

follow this link and scroll to the bottom of the page they do gt30 style turbos now, keep the boost sensible at 25 psi or below and id have confidence it will be fine on a budget build.

That's good to hear about the boost levels, as I don't think 25psi is going to be enough!

Do you have to run oil restrictions or anything?

ive been searching but I cant find the dyno plots I had yet, it was a 2.0 yb motor on cheap Chinese t3/t4 to4e turbo 0.63 rear housing and it made almost 400 hp at iirc 30 psi, the turbo had a 5 bolt rear housing similar to an rs500 with a v band flange welded to downpipe

and that was like 10 years ago, these gt30 style turbos will make more power for sure the comp housings are huge in comparison, the t3/t4 was very similar to a t34 0.63 ive driven/owned both and very similar.

no but there so cheap it doesn't really matter, £250 gets you $391, and there shipping wasn't to bad when I was buying them.

I was ordering 4 or sometimes 8 t3/t4s at a time, sent as samples there is no import tax aswell

that did come to an end eventually though

in reality theres not much that can happen if it fails, ive seen many garrets fail failed bearings and shafts twisted, bent and jammed in the housings and they run no intercooler at all straight from the compressor outlet direct into the inlet and ive never seen any engine damage.

theres risks in everything in life, ive seen with my own eyes a brand new garrett t1238 huge turbo fail catastrophically after just 4000 hours use, no oiling issues just prematurely failed.

You have never worked on a Daf engine lol when the mx13 engine came out in the 105 the new brog turbos we're going bang and putting all the oil in the cylinders and hydraulic locking them. Bent con rods fucked big end bearings the lot.

Could give flying fuck how cheap a turbo I would never risk a engine over a cheap turbo and seen many a engine destroyed by cheap turbos and its not worth the saving
