i lost a WRC spec crank, 2 rods, BD?? inlet cam and T61 turbo to exactly the same issue,i didnt belive it if im honest but seems to be true the more i see this same thing!

there were some lovely shades of purple and a visably bananna`d crank

 

But did it die in style ?

Had a bit of a result as I got a mint std crank 2 rods and a oil pump out of a 50k engine for Ł320 delivered eBay bargain of the century !!!

 

mine didnt,

rather an un-impressive slowing and extra stress, oddly, no oil warning light untill about 5 seconds after it cut out

 

So, whose gated sump was it?

How come the strainer didn't stop it or did it fail, get hit by the crank and get smashed?

Thats awesome but not when it was not needed. Add the bearings and gaskets etc and the PITA of taking it out - fookin dougnuts

 

Please do tell, was thinking about investing in one of these aswell!!

Nahh, I was always paranoid about this and just left my sump winged!

I feel your pain though

 

I am waiting for tony at turbo systems to call me as I have sent him detailed photos of said sump and he will be either modding my one or supplying a complete new one as I don't want this happening again it managed to peirce a hole in the strainer and get in that way fook knows how 3 out of 4 gates had broken away and were loose in the bottom of the sump !!!!!

 

Not really mate just heard a rattle and pushed in clutch and it locked up solid

 

It came from a quality supplier ok'd by some of the top tuners My advice is buy one from turbosystems mate fook the cost as it will protect a Ł10k + engine !!!!!! My new sump will be done by tony regardless of cost as its way cheaper than the consequences of engine failure

so am i right in saying a gate has come off and blocked the strainer equals no oil hence fooked engine?

As soon as I have Tony's input as to a reason behind the failure I will post all photos including a very bent crankshaft !!! But as far as I'm aware the sump I have is no longer avalible so that's good news lol

 

Almost part of the pin that is welded to the gate that broke made its way through the oil strainer and got jammed in the pump in turn the oil pump drive snapped and lost all oil pressure

are accusumps any more reliable???

Just goes to show this is the trouble when people who think they know what they're doing, decide to produce products

 

I'd be going back to the supplier of the gate with the engine in bits and say best put the kettle son

If that's caused engine to fail then I'd want it payed for simple

not good,just goes to show that no matter how good they LOOK or how much it costs, it does not mean they are reliable.

 

A bit like those top mounts Mike R was producing and those zoo rear beams.......people really dont realise it takes more than an idea to produce something proven and SAFE, i guess they use the "in theory" method.

I cant comment on flannigans although its clear to see its failed where its most important..

With riches (sonic boom)i can say that the welds are shit and its a very poorly made bit of kit as i did see this first hand..

There is no need to re invent the wheel when it comes to these gated baffles as like iv said before the ones iv used for many years are fine and never seen or heard of any trouble..

They are also not dear to buy.. also to flannigan..id say theres nothing wrong with your actual sump mate just been very unlucky with the gates on the baffle..
