if it's about them adjustable top mounts, i think i remember the thread

but back to the question at hand, far be it for me to sound like i'm kicking someone when they are down, but that nut welded to the sides does look a very pikey way to do thing

i'm not familiar with gated sumps from other manufacturers but i'm assuming they use a more industry standard method of fixing than that?

It explains how it got in, but how on earth did that hole get created in the mesh ? It's not like there's a ninja turtle in there bashing it's way through

all i can think is the oil pump sucked it against the strainer and the sharp edge of the broken pin wore its way through the mesh the bottom of the sump below the strainer looks like it has been shot blasted where the little fooker was bouncing off it getting a run up at the strainer mesh !!! i guess im just lucky pmsl

Poor moonstone panicking he sounds like 4i now
your sump would work ok steve if it had a proper gated baffle system at the moment it is just a big empty box clearly designed to maximise oil surge
flannigin has a cheap one for sale

In all fairness to you and mike id never seen one like that but looking at it id say its not a bad idea and like said atleast the baffles cant fall apart..!!lol

The only big wing sump iv seen is one where the sides have been cut out and the wings welded on for more capacity..

It obviuosly works as iv heard about mikes driving and im sure that would of had bottom end failure before now if it didnt work..

To your worries mike about a dry sump set up,yes i used to worry alot about gravel traps etc and belts but iv had one on my car since 2005 and never had an issue..

The belt being ripped of by anything is about as unlucky as a stone or similar going into the cambelt on a cossie with out a cover on??

Ive never known it to happen??although i did re build the pump twice in that time and change the belt about 5 times..

cheers danny

If you can imagine there being no side walls with the holse but big wings?

Then the oil could freely move side to side and the strainer could get dry causing issues??

But looks like a good idea in all fairness and obviously works..

On a road car id deffo just do this in the future..

cheers danny

Hi flannigan

Sorry to see and here about your engine firstly I do feel for you and sorry this has happend

I have 2 of these sumps on my engines one which is on my 3dr has been on for about 6 yrs

The guy who makes them is a very good friend of mine I haven't spoke to Him yet but will do some point today

I'm a bit paranoid now to check the one on the 3dr the other one I have is not fitted to the escort

I feel kind of bad that yours has failed as these are ment to be for racing and suppose to be the bizz as they are an exact copy of the ford touring car only smaller in oil capacity and the next best thing to dry sump

How long have you had this sump???

Cheers Marco

Infact i have found a very good way of getting a good deal thanks..

PS

If your sump is the same as mikes and andys id say you would prob never have a problem with it..might free up some cash for some proper mods on your engine??
