I got the 5000 one wrong which really suprised me as im normally good at maths stuff.
Got the mary one right but only cause ive heard it before.
Others i got right anyway.

It's the last bit that throws you off, you add 10 to 4090 to get the correct answer, but in your brain you see add 100 to 4900 (well i kept doing that), took me a few seconds to get my head around it, must be getting old

So thats 1000 + 1000 + 1000 + 1000 = 4000
40 + 30 + 20 + 10 = 100

I think the answer to the second question is undefined but not impossible, as you may have just lapped the person who is last, but that could still mean you are second to last or first or any position apart from last.

No, cause it says "overtook" not "lapped"

Which are different i guess, although its just semantics and a bit pointless.

The answer is that you cant overtake the person in last place, cause you would have to be behind them which would mean you were in last place, and you cant overtake yourself.

Although thats obviously wrong, as anyone who has ever driven a wet roundabout in a rwd saph will tell you its perfectly possible to overtake yourself!

Quite true, but to overtake someone you do not have to be behind them in terms of a race.

1 [T] to go beyond something by being a greater amount or degree:

We'd planned to hold a meeting tomorrow, but events have overtaken us (= things have changed).

2 [I or T] UK (US pass) to come from behind another vehicle or a person and move in front of it:
Always check your rear view mirror before you overtake (another car).

So if you lap somebody you do indeed overtake them!

Thus my argument stands.
