Cossie, unless you risk running a budget spec Zetec

Ł1500 to build a decent ZT to make a reliable 300bhp is going to be pushing it too IMO.

Cheers,

Cheap option. St170 block, blacktop head. Focus rs manifold and turbo. Megasquirt. Not about the flywheel with rwd.

For rwd application I reckon a yb would be the easiest and cheapest option

300bhp, cossie engine possibly, if you can find a standard one cheap.
zetec turbo, grand in bottom end, new gaskets and valve springs and you'll piss 300bhp.
not much in it, it's all the other bits that cost money like injectors, manifolds etc.

But everyones forgetting it's rwd

Needs custom sump, mounts and water rail and pipe work, exhaust ect ect with the zetec

Cossie most bits are off the shelf for it and a few hundred quid will see 330bhp stage 3 on standard engine and turbo

Realistically, both are out of your price range if you're going to do it properly.

A Zetec turbo could be done the cheapest if you can make your own sump and water rail kit though, and it will piss 300 bhp.

i get the impression the zetec is a blinder of a setup and very tuneable. however the yb is a masterpiece and purely for bragging rights, its worth 50hp alone. when someone asksd wqhat engine your running, and you can just say cossie in one word, its enough said. also bear in mind the std internals are more than upto 400hp. after the initial outlay its probably the cost effectrive option aswell. also has the best looking cam cover out of all the performance fords.

Don't get me wrong, me personally could do cossie cheaper, because I know where to get bits

Zetec is alot lighter.

Why not fit something like a st170 engine with 1.8 mm frs gasket will be upto 300 bhp

You will just have to set the vvt on a switch unless you buy proper management

Also a t34 at mild boost will be ample too

im also wondering this myself, ive recently changed plans and ive gone from fwd to rwd

i have a full focus rs kit (everything minus the engine) so am i best building a zetec turbo using these bits and running it rwd or should i sell the bits i have and go yb?

how will a std focus rs engine cope rwd?

Ring nick at gatwick motors he has a bare focus Rs engine in need of a rebuild for Ł300

There's a guy on here with a mk1 frs on stock bottom end and modded head doing 390bhp

Totally standard engine with decat, actuator and decent cooler and remap can see 290bhp and over 300 with a decent manifold

What exactly do you have? Fitting a Zetec engine the other way round can be a little involving.

Depending on exactly how far back the engine is mounted the exhaust manifold and inlet manifold won't fit. And they will look ugly that way round too IMO!

The Zetec engine itself will need a new sump, a water rail kit and an alternator kit as well more than likely.

Also a custom flywheel will be needed ideally to match to a T5 gearbox and Cossie clutch.

its a mk5 xr3i with a sierra floor pan, and escort wrc pannels

ive seen flywheels available of the shelf for the t5 so that shouldnt be a problem.

i mean im happy to sell the zetec stuff i have and buy a cossie engine but i doubt ill find a yb engine for around 800-1k..

what do you think a focus rs inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, wiring loom, ecu, charge cooler stystem and a cat convertor is worth? plus a few hoses

For RWD i would have thought a standard sump would be fine or at least need little work to get it in place, the bottom of a blacktop is just steel and pickup pipe could be modified easily.
manifolds will need to be custom though.
my pretty average forged zetec aimed towards 400-450bhp has cost around 4.5k with pipework etc into a fiesta, rwd would be a little more.
cossie would be a chunk for engine itself, then few modified parts after that, i can't see there being much in it really, but depends on level of tune you aim for really though.
