Driving while on a Mobile
If you get the urge to do it..... don't
Been told by a couple of insurers that a CU80 convicttion (driving when on a mobile) will next year be rated the same as a DR10 (drink driving).
ie... they'll either put a big increase on your policy, or refuse to quote at all.
You have been warned

no excuse for it, i got parot hands free kits of fleabay for my vans for Ł55 each. see dozens of people everyday in london on the phone driving, and some of these people are driving cars worth in excess of 20k ffs

Wow bit harsh i got caught as i was on the phone to my mum who was having a heart attack at the time, granted this was over 4 years ago.
There is no excuse, not now hands free kits are so cheap but 4 years ago they werent so cheap.

i see far worse happening each day that people on the phone.i dont see it as a big deal.to class drink driving as being on the same level as using your phone is nonsense and an obvious pick on an easy target money making excuse .
whats the world coming to. next i wont be able to snort lines of my dashboard whilst my passenger steers.

There are many far worse things than using a mobile whilst driving. And the actual offence is a whopping great grey area. If you literally touch your phone whilst driving, a wanker cop can treat that the same as someone in a full blown conversation/texting session whilst driving.
Nope, not the same thing. And drink offences are another crock of shit. Why they treat someone who is totally competent and capable just at or over the legal limit the exact same as someone who cant see or stand, blind drunk, again just baffles me.
The government have no real notion about road safety or how to improve things, nor do they care. It's just a case of dreaming up new legislation to fine motorists. And when they have idiot support, they'll get away with it

The law is so stupid, that if your keys are in the ignition and the handset is in your hand, then they can convict. The engine doesnt even need to be running !
What next, sitting eating a takeaway in the car with the engine running will become an offence ? Which is more dangerous. Eating, or using a phone when parked ?
Lets just hope they arrest any speed camera van operators who leave their engines running for heat during the winter.

I drove past a woman doing about 55 in the middle lane of the m6 the other day, steering with her elbows, texting with her right hand, eating a sandwich with the left, i matched her speed and blasted the horn and she shit herself..

i got done about 3 years ago for being on a mobile and hands free are good but not when you have to carry more than 1 phone, personally i think its over the top, people smoke, eat, drink etc all at the wheel and thats fine but the police love jumping on the mobile phone use, people say its dangerous which it is but PC plod goes along on there radio at high speeds and thats not.
Im just bitter but my points should be off next year.

i was in a car with a mate once when he managed to navigate a tight left hand bend at a fair speed steering with his knees as he had a bigmac in one hand, his phone in the other and didnt even squash the milkshake that was inbetween his legs! totally innapropriate behaviour but i was pretty impressed tbh

People are allowed to smoke when they drive and that's way more serious than talking on a mobile i mean what would happen if the end fell off there fag. It's shocking people getting done for being on the phone I got stopped 2year ago and they gave me a ticket which I threw away never heard anything back from it. Arseholes what they are it's a criminals they need to catch. I rang the police the other day as some prick had nicked my brand new led recovery light of my van which was parked in my yard and they asked if I knew who nicked it when I said no they asked what I wanted them to do.

I hate it when people are on there phones when they are driving.I can remember a tv program where a bloke was on his phone in a truck and ran in the back on a lass which was on the way to her new job
she was stuck in a traffic jam and the bloke in the truck ran into the back of the lass and killed her.

You believe everything you read do you? Next thing you will see more accidents are caused by people smoking whilst driving, we need to ban them with more fines and more points! It's just biased propaganda, that's all!

but i dont think its harsh considering my cousim is now a vegetable as a result from crashing whilst arguing with his ex on the phone and driving
That's the point....some wanker cops here were doing people parked in a layby safely off the road, purely because their engine was still running !!

no not everything but i did think about that one for a while and its pretty feasible. Think about the social stigma nowadays for drink driving and how little people do it now and then think about how many people that you see every single day driving while they are on their phone. They say that your concentration level is the same as being drunk.

There isn't really an excuse to have your phone planted to your ear anymore, bluetooth parrot kits are cheap and easy to install, I fitted one last year and it was the best thing I've done.
Having said that, I often find myself eating some fruit while driving into work in the morning, so that's just as distracting I guess.

Disagree with some of the points above.
Eating fruit is not a temporary mental distraction to driving, as your mind can still be adequately focussed on driving.
People on the phone however, 99% of the time, are completely fucking oblivious to everyone else on the roads.......especially what seems to be the norm, any female over about 45 in any car worth more than around 10k ie Merc, BMW, Porsche's especially....not forgetting X5's.
I'm not saying that some people can't drive adequately while on the phone, I daresay many can, but not everyone on here can drive like a lot of the guys with track experience or high performance experience either.
Oh...and in case you hadn't noticed, they'r econsidering a ban on smoking in cars anyway......
If the phone call in the car is THAT important, then you NEED to stop, due to what the concern over the call is..
Point given, rant over

Agreed it never should be done, I got caught the one week I was without my handsfree kit, old stereo with bluetooth was stolen and was waiting for a new one. The annoying thing about it was, I was negotiating a roundabout, being in the correct lane, indicating and spotting the undercover police car coming the other way to end the call. the copper even said he was impressed but 'rules are rules'! Never done it again since, just not worth it. So many people are incapable of driving and doing anything else at the same time. Especially women or van drivers, they tend to struggle just to do the former. Worst one I saw was a women paramedic texting whilst driving an ambulance the other day :-O

Considering they blame speeding on virtually all accidents, I'd find any of their statistics hard to believe.
They'll feed the public with bullshit until enough idiots believe them and then they start issuing fines for their bullshit.
As I say, they need idiot support to get these things off the ground.
And driving whilst tired is far more dangerous than a few drinks. When has anyone ever been charged with that ? Do they even look for tired drivers ?
What about wankers driving with no lights on min severe weather conditions ? That IS dangerous driving. Ive never heard of anyone being charged ?
All they care about is dreaming up new ways to fine motorists. Yes driving whilst actually on a phone call is not safe. But there are far more dangerous ways to drive that they totally ignore.

And the most annoying thing, when I phoned the police, they didnt want to know a single thing about it.
The police pro actively hunt down drivers who have caused no harm to anyone in order to dish fines oiut etc. Yet when some do cause harm, they dont give a fuck.
Clearly they see safe drivers as ones who crash. And dangerous ones who dont actually cause any harm or inconvenience to others at all.
I havent found anyone, police or otherwise who can explain that logic to me.
And their stupid speed awareness courses etc. It seems they are only offered to people again who caused no harm, and havent actually done anything wrong except going a very small few mph over their limits.
And then their course, from people who have attended, actually has very little to do with speed awareness in the first place !!
Why dont they actually try and educate people who need to be educated on their driving ?

I got caught in august :-( on the m4 i was in standstill traffic and at most rolling at 2 mph. The police were coming down the hard shoulder pulling people left right and centre i know this as after i was issued with my ticket and on my way they drove down the hard shoulder with no lights on and then flashed another driver that was nearly at a standstill to move over. The police need to abide by the same rules as everyone else wankers
