Underpowered for an RS? Really? 150BHP in standard guise from the factory made the 2k the most powerful n/a Escort Ford had ever mass produced at the time.
Plus you think the MK5 / MK6 RS handles like any other MK5 or MK6 Escort. Are you for real, or just a 2k hater. Each to their own but it does make me laugh when people hate on the 2k's.

and yes i do think the mk5/6 rs's handle like a normal mk5/6 escort probably due to the fact they share the majority of thier suspension components
and no im not a 2k hater as such i just think they are massivley overated

most powerfull n/a escort maybe, most powerfull rs ford? not by a long shot a lot of the baby diesels will now show a standard rs2000 its ass

alot of baby diesels would show a standard RS turbo its ass aswell so that was pretty pointless.
infact there are diesels on sale these days which would wipe the floor with a standard cosworth aswell,
you cant compare modern cars with older cars, ofcourse they are bound to be better

Not bitter at all, I do however get fed up dealing with ignorance from so called Ford enthusiasts. There is nothing wrong with RS2000s I'm not disputing gti6 is better, there are lots of better cars but I just expect fellow enthusiasts to support the brand instead of biased "their just shit" Opinions.

How can you call me and others on here biased.... I've spunked more cash in the 11yrs I've owned ford's to frighten average Joe..!... Bit I'll admit I've been a bit harsh towards the rs2k... Great cars for some but just not for me tbh .... You might say the same about focus rs's or 3dr cosworth's... But I wouldn't cry and say your not supporting the brand.
Anyhow get some pics up of your rs2k... You never know I might like it...

In actual fact if you allow yourself to get to know these motors, you might find their pretty nice, just don't expect Cosworth level of performance and you might be pleasantly surprised. The problem is they have an image created by a select few who don't get the concept and some who think they don't even deserve the RS badge and will openly diss the brand. Because it's not as quick as their Cosworth then the assumption is it's a piece of crap, it was never meant to compete against the cosworth but unfortunately the cosworths existence pretty much caused the RS2000-16v to fail in the markets, added to this a group 17 insurance code when in the 90's, insurance had gone sky high (mate of mine was paying 8k for his stock Escos) and sales were poor.
It's often referred to as the GTI copy, when in fact the GTI came about after the Rs2000 was cancelled, its the GTI that was made to look like the RS2000 and not the other way round. Either way, Im sure if ford had stuck the maxi arch kit to the cars, sales might have been better.
My motor has surprised quite a few people and resulted in them changing their mind, I started the club all those years ago to try and change the mind set some people have and raise the image of the brand.
It's often a struggle and usually a losing battle but I keep trying.

Absolutely, we all have our personal preferences, I appreciate the fact that some people obviously don't like the Mk5 and Mk6 RS but as the founder of www.RS2000-16V.com club, I come up against this kind of ignorance every day. These models never got the glamour of other RS marques and the only people who really developed the engine (Mountune) won't share their secrets so the myth that their untunable was born and accepted by everyone, the actual fact 280bhp NA was easily dooable and that's what the Tarmac rally cars used.

Looking at that vid i dont think the cossie was even trying.
Is it just me but does anyone else hate the dash boards on them astras. I think its a poor idea having the heater controls right at the bottom of the dash so when your using them you have to take your eyes off the road to adjust them. At least the most important switch is at the top of the dash right in the middle. You will need that in a vauxhall.

I have owned a 306gti6 for nearly 10 years now. Without any doubt the best car I have ever owned, and would'nt hesitate recommending one.
If I had to pick one issue that initially appears to let the car down compared to say a clio 172, is that it has a very long first gear which makes the car appear a little sluggish off the line. Mine will do 50mph in 1st gear! The reality is that is actually makes it fast because it doesnt wheel spin in 1st, but on first driving impressions it does appear to be slow in 1st gear!

My mate told me about this gti and it was round the corner from his workshop he had mot'd it last week and said it was a absolute cracker of a car with lots of money spent and a very mature owner, the folder of history is stunning and i must admit i think he has had his trousers pulled down at some of the invoices
What oil does folk recommend in these motors, millers xss a good choice perhaps ?

Look if your going to drive it, despite my ford blinkers, the pug is the option! However French cars are made from frog shit and eventually it will break. The rs2k will break too, but somehow its easier, quicker and cheaper to fix the old escort.
Be proud and buy the RS but the pug is a better car...
