I really do think you need to engage brain before opening gob/operating keyboard.
They do not have to stick to these guidelies as it all depends on the plea of the party and the financial status etc. They are exactly what they say they are GUIDELINES!!!!!!
Also it is TON and not TONE, guidelines not guidlines and I not i. If you are unsure of how to spell what you are writing can I suggest using a spell checker.

a tone was an old pre metric measure of a ton wasnt it ?

a tonne = 1000 kgs
a ton = 2240 lbs and is made up of stones and that sort of stuff and isn't metric
i think it is derived from old school weights and measures in the same way as pounds shillings and pence worked in olden days (but no one can remember how they work now)
edited to say that it's to do with hundredweights but i can't remember how it's worked out

Some impressively innacurate 'facts' being spouted on here, for the record I was caught doing triple figures in a 70 with 2 DR10's already on my licence and didnt get banned!
