I'd be more concerned about the prison sentence that is marriage than the speeding fine
you may be lucky and not get a summons
you may also find that your indicated 110 speedo reading is over optimistic
my advice would be to not under any circumstances turn up on your wedding day

i once got a 28 day ban and i cant remember the fine, £150 iirc for 88mph on a 50 duel carrageway - first offence

second was 50 in a 30 duel carrageway, 5 points and £190 fine but i couldnt be nothered to go court so may have been less if i had.

V MAN, what were you piloting, and what was the outcome?? fine/ban/prison etc?

thats some fucking good going

In 1998 i was caught on the a16 at 111mph and got away with a 40 day ban and £100 fine. Hope you dont get too much for it??

Thanks for the well wishes.

MO RS TURBO - If nothing comes through I will be straight down the local co-op with the rest of my months wages to spend on lottery tickets and scratchcards!!! I can only dream of being so damned lucky - alas I was the only car on the road so I can't see the person in it being asleep at the time!

Fudgey - cheers for the comments, I could probably stomach those!

I'm hoping you can pay a court fine on credit card!!!

One in Lincolnshire. About a mile long and completely dead straight. This may be the internet but I also appreciate that 'the powers that be' use it as well.

Wounder mate

Give me a bell if you want a moan - nothing I can add on a 'legal' front i'm afraid.

Are you sure it wasn't your wife to be driving?

Thats unlucky. Shame you're not self employed as you can get away with lots then.

Friend of my dad's got done at about 125 on motorway by traffic officer and pleaded in court got 3 day ban and £500 fine, then got done at 140 two weeks later by speed gun on motorway in his new 7 series and got 7 day ban and £750 fine.

He needs to drive daily to keep his business afloat, staff employed, kids and wife in house etc. Although his son goes everywhere with him as his right hand man and can drive anyway. They can be pretty lenient if you have a good plea.

About 8 yrs ago me and two mates were doing 120-130 down local bypass then after a couple of miles noticed the blue flashing lights behind. I had 11pts 1 mate had 12pts and the other had 8pts and all 3 of us had retaken are tests after topping up in first 2yrs. We admitted doing 120mph in a 60 and they dropped racing on a public highway. We got 28 day ban and £180

Are they being arseholes in the RAF with motoring court appearances then lately??? come back of the SDR meaning they can be cunts??

Seems odd to put you on a charge for a non criminal motoring offence. Sure dock you the days pay if you have to take time off work (and cant stike a deal with your boss to get leave that day). Dangerous driving or drink driving etc then sure its blatently bringing service into disrepute as its the kind of behaviour we dont want. But a bit harsh for speeding especially as its a very very common thing in the forces.

you need the NIP to know what youll get. if its not ban material and your slower than expected then just accept the ticket and if needs be plead guilty in absence if they push it to court so at least the raf cant fuck you for the day off

I dont know how similar the seperate forces discipline acts are but id of thought sentancing guidelines are pretty similar these days. I had several lads in court for speeding in my time and for most of them they could get away with not attending court as the wording in the naval discipline act meant as long as they didnt appear in person then it didnt count You cant get away with that for a offence with a minimum sentance of a ban though.

Just out of interest for you guys that have been banned..

When you got your license back how did if effect your insurance? I presume 5 years of bum rape from the ins companies? But how much does it go uo, say you're paying £800 does it double, do some ins companies refuse to insure you?

To the OP

There's always always the chance the copper was just setting up or leaving!

WarrenPenalver - My understanding is that if you are convicted of an offence in court then you have automatically brought the Forces into disrepute due to the inevitable publicity (even if it's the local rag) that such a case will generate.

That said I have a very good friend who escaped a drink driving related disrepute charge because his SEngO managed to argue that he had been punished enough by the civvie courts therefore additional punishment would be excessive. I have a bloody good WO but ultimately the system is there to fuck over anybody who fucks up. When you bring the SDSR into the equation where they are looking at getting rid of ANYBODY for the tiniest little things (fitness test failures are flavour of the month at the moment) then it potentially doesn't bode well for me, not with the amount of time I have left.

As/when I have to bring work into it I'm quite optimistic I'll get their support in exchange for being at the top of the shit list for the rest of this year. I can't do anything about that until I get the paperwork through the post so I'm just going to have to sit pretty until then and fucking pray!

jameswrx - as I've said above, if I somehow managed to escape this completely unscathed then I'm writing off the rest of this month's salary on the fucking lottery!!!!

Fight it, my bro got caught doing 103 in a 70, this took him up to 12 points, all for speeding, HE DID NOT GET A BAN, the jp's have the power not to ban if they so choose, they just gave him a massive fine.
You will almost defo find there was a procedural error, 2 1/2 years ago my car was video'd driving completely on the wrong side of the road towards a unmarked plod car doing "in excess of 100mph"(cops statement), the video was awsome detail, there was 5 cops in the car and video evidence, I walked out of CROWN COURT after around 10 minutes with CASE DISMISSED, due to the complete incompetency of the Norfolk and cambridgeshire police, and a around 5-6 evidential errors.
At the magistrates court I pled "NO PLEA", and elected crown court myself, it is very true ime magistrates courts are in the plods pockets.
Depends how important to you, but some research could pay handsomely.

My mate got caught by a camera on a duel Carriageway just as it merged into a single carriageway and 30 mph and he was still doing 70
Got himself a Solicitor etc as he runs a Garage and needs him licence for obvious reasons
Got him nowhere
Court said he was doing 110% over
Don't think his car helped him mind
He was in his Pontiac GTO. Has Judge stickers all over it and the Number plate reads "Guilty"
He got a 30 day Ban
£500 fine

Ian

I got recorded at 133mph in a temporary 60mph (roadworks 3-lane motorway) and 70mph zone.

I received 7 day ban and got £90 fine

First offence, I had to attend Leeds magistrates court and did not have the option to plead guilty by post.

It took 5 months and 2 weeks for the summons to drop through the door, I beleive they have 6 months to follow it up.

Good luck!!

I'd deffo get a solicitor and letters from work etc. It DOES make a difference.

A friend got done for 82 in a 40 and got 0 points or fine, (technicality)
Also I got done for 69.66 in a 40 (was a dual carriageway thought it was national). I got a 10 day ban, no points, £200 fine. If I got points I would have been banned on totting up. So i asked for (well the solicitor did) a short ban rather than points. I expected 30-90 days. I got 10!

SP30's don't matter all that much IIRC, every man and there dog has had one these days. Even my grandad who is 189 and does 6mph everywhere managed to get caught.

Anyone driving across the border may like to know that if you are stopped by the cops on the "wrong" side (either north or south) and can't produce your papers at the roadside, you still get 7 days to take them to a police station but the case has to go to court - you can't be given or accept a fixed penalty notice.
That made mine a bit more expensive than the £60/3 Points.

Thumbs down UPDATE - got the NIP through.

Thought I would give an update on this.

Managed to make it to day 13 since 'the offence' and the dreaded notice of intended prosecution has hit my doormat.

The offence in question..........

105mph in a 60mph limit

The case is going to be dealt with by a court appearance which basically means I am fucked as I'm right in the deep end of that 'worst case scenario' I'd predicted.

I've got 28 days to fill out and return the sheet asking to identify who was driving - should I be seeking out a good lawyer now or after I've sent it back? What sort of timescales am I looking at for a court date and if anyone else has any little gems of wisdom I would appreciate it about now!!!

You'll still have to send it back.

You'll have to plead guilty and you'll be asked when you appear at court what your plea is again.

It's very important you don't change your plea.

Just go along with it, take it on the chin be honest and apologetic....

Dress smart and hope for a good judge.

Good luck it'll not be as bad as what you think

You should have some forms for your outgoings in the summons to declare.

Fill it out so that you have very little left at the end of the month and that is what they base your fine on.

Of course they fucking will you clown ! If the guy earns £300 a week and his out goings are £250 .................. theyre not going to give him a £1000 fine knowing he will have to pay monthly for god knows how long !

If he earns £1K a week and only has out goings of £200 they will hand out a hefty fine aswell as points and his court costs will be more too !

Fucking stop giving out advice you know fuck all about mate , its embarrassing to read !

Don't know if some one has all ready said this but i'm sure that all mobile speed detection devices be it hand held or vehicle based have to be calibrated daily, the operator is also required to have a certificate of compitance for the indicated speed to stand in court without these there is no charge.

I remember reading this info on www.pepipoo.com a while back just had a flick but can't find it.
hope they let you off light tho pal
