95 - 105 in a 60 - what can I expect? *UPDATE - NIP THROUGH*
Pretty shitty day all round really!
Have had a monumentally shit day at work, a trip I was looking forward to this weekend has been cancelled but I am still having to go into work anyway as there are shit jobs that need doing and I ended up having to work late this evening as well just because of the sheer amount of faffing going on by my management.
So, keen to get away from work and get home I'm not exactly hanging around on Lincolnshire's country lanes to get home. Going down one of the mile long straight roads I normally take to work I only notice the speed camera van on the side of the road as I go flying past it at an indicated 110mph!!!
I know it's not big, I know it's not clever and I have absolutely no intention of trying to wriggle out of it but what sort of punishment am I looking at here? A fine and points I can cope with but a ban will see me seriously screwed. I currently have a clean licence and this will be my first 'proper' motoring offence (have had an SP30 in the past but long gone now).
Is it likely to be dealt with by fixed penalty notice through the post or can I expect a knock on the door later inviting me down to the local nick for 'a chat'
Just one of those fucking days!!!

it wont be jail lol
if you have a sp30 in the past then you dont have a clean licence and its not your first motoring offence
you will get a court summons in the post
so get your self a good defence lawer but in my experience as its magistrates it wont make a lot of difference as its a police court as such
dont matter if you go there saying stuff like your job depends on your licence or familey will be affected etc they wont care
you will be banned without a dout and a fined

Yes I'm a fucking pillock but that's what happens when you are in a rush on autopilot.
Am I looking at a dangerous driving offence here or may they push for an easy conviction for driving without due care. I know it's a tough one to call but I was accellerating the whole way down the road so if they got me from a fair ol' distance away then they may have only clocked me at 80.
If I'm not expecting a knock on the door later then I might go and get myself some beer and start praying! Either way I better get my number 1 uniform out of the wardrobe and ironed it seems.

Yes it's not my first offence but this will be my first 'proper' offence (SP30 is still, as far as I'm aware, considered a minor traffic offence) and as it was over 8 years ago I got picked up for that my licence has had no active points on it for over 5 years now - I consider that a clean licence.

i got caught for 165 in a 70 so was in and out of court and spoke to numerous solicitors etc and my name is on the register of highest speeding convictions recorded in this country
im in the top 3 %
and im not trying to look big here just did the same as you mate
now a sp will stay for 10 years so the fact you had one 8 years ago will stand in court
and you recent speeding is a driving offence not criminal
so they will see this as a repeat offence
road conditions and weather also other road traffic etc will determin the dangeroud part

Bollocks on the previous offences being on record for 10 years - I thought drink/drug driving were the only offences they could hold against you for 10 years? All others were forgotten after 3 (+1 more year on your licence and +2 for insurance purposes) as they fall under the rehabilitation of offenders act? Maybe I am wrong - I've never been in this position before but I'm genuinely interested to know.
While none of this is really the end of the world - I've just started a new job which involved a lot of travelling around the UK and northern Europe (a lot of it driving), I'm getting married in August and I'm finally getting my arse in gear to get my 3-year project car on the road this summer - talk about shitty timing!

the offences may not stay for 10 years but teh courts will consider them for taht long
i got banned for Dangerous driving in =02 and got 2 year ban and retake etc and they went back to no mot/bald tyre when i was 17, they print out a list of anything motoring for the court for the past 10 years

Will screw up the remaining 4 years of my RAF career as well as I'll be charged by them as well if I do end up in court. Chasing promotion with 4 years left and this will be on my record (read: no chance of being promoted) for the next 3 of them!!!

Do you know what offence you are being taken to court for? Have they already told you that you are being summoned to court to answer the charge of.............dangerous/careless driving? Have you had any other contact with the police/CPS other than the letters you have been sent?

Dave, surely the RAF can't do you as well for a speeding offence? I know drink driving etc is a whole different ball game as it brings the service in to disrepute but i have never heard of anyone being done for a speeding offence.
Obviously if your job requires the use of a driving licence then a decent Officer should be able to help you keep it but you will get a heavily increased fine and a shed load of points. Hopefully all will go well for you as when i was clocked and stopped on the M4 at just over 100mph my paperwork mysteriously disappeared and i never heard anything again.

got caught at 92 in a 60 and got 5 points n a £150 fine, no brief no letter pleading i was rushing to help a old lady just held my hands up to it. caught for something else last year and wrote a letter pleading with them about how sorry i was and explained the situation n got away with minimum points n fine.

I would expect them to escalate that to either 'without due care' or 'dangerous driving'.
My input is go see a solicitor when the summons has arrived and states what the actual charge is...
You are going to be the luckiest s.o.b going if it comes through as a speeding ticket mate.

Defo a court aperance i had the option to plead guilty by post or plead guilty in court im going to court as i believe you got a better chance of retianing your licence if you go in person others my disagree

I am going to wait and see what paperwork comes through either way - if by some miracle it is a speeding ticket I will send it back with a cheque and thank whatever deity was smiling on me that day - unfortunately I can't see that happening so am looking to prepare for the worst (a day in court I suspect). Once I have some paperwork through I will go and see my Warrant who 'knows the right people to talk to' and see what I can sort out - I dare say an imminent tour to Afghanistan or the Falklands or something might suddenly look favourable to my case! I am merely reading massively ahead there though!
The problem I am going to have with a ban is I live in a private house approximately 20 miles across the county from my work place (40 minute drive). Anything up to a month I could probably cope with as I would just take the whole period on leave and be on the management's shit list for the rest of my tour - anything over a month and I am either looking at moving back into a room on camp (which would go down epicly well with the soon-to-be-wed misses!) or something else like cycling into work!

its really not as i got done recently going faster then what you said and i got 5 points and 300quid fine and it wasn't my first time
so lets stick to facts

I had 6 points and got caught doing 100mph bang on. They offered me 6 points and £60 fine which would of given me an instant ban for 3 months and loss of my job. I went to court and my boss came with me and we both pleaded my case. I ended up with 5 points and a £350 fine which I was very grateful for. Just go to court and tell them the circumstances and how sorry you are and hopefully you will just get points and a fine instead of a ban.
