Default What's the difference with a cgi block?

To a mk1 focus rs block? I have also heard there are two types of cgi block, so was wondering the difference!

Also what price would I be looking to pay?

Cheers

ones a copy of the zetec e production block and the others the real wrc block fitted with niksil liners ,all parts like crank sensor brackets machined off , and you have to use a plate on top of the block as the liners sit abovethe block face , tbh i wouldnt even consider one of these unless youve got deep pockets, just gofor the £750 cgi zetec e block as its a straight swap.
can i ask what bhp your after?

cheers paul

I eventually want about 500bhp! would it be worth getting a rs block and putting liners in it?

Are the focus rs blocks not cgi? Thought they were different to the normal 2ltr zetecs but not sure how or if they are at all?!

All CGI blocks don't have any core plugs (AFAIR). Standard Blacktop (FRS) block will do 500bhp

correct i forgot to mention about core plugs well remembered , silvertop or blacktop will do 500bhp on a standard block with standard crank all thats needed is good shells , arp bolts and a good set of forged pistons and h beam rods .
i would contact ian howell at area six for the custom built arias or cp pistons as these are made specially for him and have litlle extras , they are around £1300 for a set but you pay for what you get and this will be good for 570+ bhp as in paul johnsons focus . mine runs a standard block and crank and made 522bhp hence the name

cheers paul

well your right it hasnt been given a good pasting in the car yet but the bottom end has seen over 20,000 miles and had its arse well and truely pasted at 300bhp , and to say you dont risk anything on the dyno when your pushing boundries with new parts etc to get the ultimate power and youve spent a small fortune is just beyond a joke , have you ever been to a watch a engine dyno ? probably not as your not really pushing boundries with your 350bhp so you wouldnt know whats involved .
and we are still going for more which now cost more money .

and for the reply to the dry sump , it ran 522bhp with standard pump but its now running a full dry sump kit

new you would bite to that lol.

but i smell bull shit you say it had a good pasting @300hp and over 20k ?
but in the zetec turbo oil pump thread you say it did 37000 in one year!!! and all you have changed is inlet/exhaust manifolds and turbo to get to 522bhp .

i have never said i was out to push any boundries.
but my car gets hell at every show i go to and is always up there with the fastest fwd's!so i must be doing somthing right.
i could build a 500hp zetec tomorrow theres no big secret to it .in fact a simple turbo change on my engine would see 500hp but thats not what i want from my car ,its a full on road car that gets used .

then why dont you just keep your sarky little comments to yourself as no one is really interested tbh , and you can smell bullshit you have just made yourself look like a right cunt , i said it had a good pasting @ 300bhp for over 20 k , well when i went to school 37,000 miles is over 20,000 is it not or did you teach yourself maths , because that would make alot of sense as each time i read about your fiesta its gained 30/40bhp , first its was 350bhp ,then 370bhp now 400bhp now thats bullshit pal.
you say that your not competative or trying to push boundries
why do you always comment about 1/4 times on every new car thats on this forum and any big spec car must be quicker than you , get a life some people are not intersted in 1/4 mile , some people build a high powered track car or a top speed car
you could build a 500bhp engine tomorrow lol, you aint even got a big valve head , and what about all the machining you need to fit the race buckets as theres no way you could get a cam to do 500 bhp with standard followers as these are specially made to ians spec and its a massive headache to get the cam duration right so youve got no chance and its harder than you think especially keeping it reliable thats why i used ian as i could of built one myself but when you start mismatching parts you end up building things over and over again .
your car does get a pasting as i seen it many times and i also saw it at the side of the road on the way to ford fair which made me and the missus chuckle as you had your head under the bonnet.
youve just got a good set up on your car thats all , theres nothing special about it , paul ripleys fiesta was running 260bhp 10 years ago and is still as quick or quicker than your car so nothing changed in ten years it just paul ripley didnt blow smoke out of his own arse like you do and he was running 90bhp less than you are so you tell me why he was so quick and it was also done at bunters on a concrete runway not a pro drag strip so theres a good chance that it still may have gone quicker.
he had fun and got good times , your are competative and got good times and slated people along the way like luca when you got mardy and said he got 400bhp and he only .2 sec quicker , well i always thought that dragging was about the quickest time which puts you well and truly in second place.

you say you aint interested in my engine etc so why is your name always on my home page ?

cheers paul

p.s i love your sig picture as it basically shows you chasing that 800bhp evo down, now thats bullshit

It's been a while since I paid much attention to it but wasn't the CGI block in the WRC considered to be 'lifed' after 2 events/rebuilds?

I know that reliability was more of an issue than money but that sort of thing always makes me wonder how much margin was in even the CGI block under any sort of longer term hard use.

my math is fine lol. just find it strange you quoted 20,000 miles on this thread and 37,000 two month ago on the oil pump thread .

and my engine has run @ 350 /370 and now over 400hp why is that bull shit ?

and what the fu*k are these race buckets ? they are standard lifters from a red top engine.

ford fair last year i pulled over as it got a little hot (a bullet conector failed) on the fan wirering . it was fixed at the side of the road and didnt stop me from winning the fwd 0-60 same day and driving home.

luca is .5 faster than me on the 1/4 mile

and the evo in my sig screamed past me no probs but then you have just said it was 800hp so what your point? it was a wet day and my first track day so i was taken it easy and only running about 300hp (less than 1bar).
