Intercooler Test (Pics added Page 10)

Please don't forget that intercooler is 8 years old and only 50mm thick.
The idea of the test was to see if the 70mm Airtec one i had and modified would be better than my old intercooler, which it was.
My old intercooler has served me well and is far from shit, but not at the power im now running.

Pete from spec r gave me a call this afternoon to discuss my new cooler and is going to get it built asap for me..
We will then do back to back tests with my pro alloy to see how and where my improvements are and i will put up all our findings..
Im really excited about the results as im hoping for the same type results as mad ade got!!
Mark managed to put 6 degree more spark into mad ade map resulting in another 75 hp!!!
with a few other changes iv just made and any where near them sort of results will see me on the end of my turbos limits with circa 700hp on pump fuel...
Cant wait to get all this done now, shame it wont be before brands on the 22nd to see how it performs on the track but will hopefully be done before donny on the 29th of december???
cheers danny

At least with doing Brands you can data log the sessions to see what the air temp does over outside temp then compare to the next track day.

After sitting here and having a good look and thinking about the results of the day i have just ordered a Spec-R intercooler off Pete.
One of the main reasons is the Airtec intercooler still takes as much time to recover its temps on the road as my old one, even though it performed well on the rollers.
I know i wasn't able to test the Spec-R one on the road but the reports Mark Shead posted about amazing temp recovery has also helped me decide to get one.
Another fact it also weighs about 1/2 the weight of the Airtec intercooler.
And one last think is the way the Spec-R intercooler picks up the power earlier throughout the power runs and how smooth the line is with no turbo surge.

LOL alright Danny.....
And if it tasted nice i would.... same with yours if it tasted of strawberries!!
And i wasnt just referring to the intercooler.... I heard a rumour that there might be a few more Spec-R goodies being added under your bonnet!!!

So in answer to your question Danny,we are confident that we now have close to 700 brake and 580 lbft on V-Power
Cheers,
Ade.

We had 677 on the dyno on V-Power with a Swedish plenum When the engine was reinstalled Mark had to remove 6 degrees of ignition and a lot of fuel because of how the pro alloy intercooler was restricting it. It went on the roolers at Motorworx last October and it produce 583 brake. Still managed to pull 183 mph from standstill in a mile in 29.5 seconds at Fighting Torque August 2009. Now it's on a fully internally polished Hart plenum as well as the Spec-R 83mm Garrett bar and plate intercooler, and a 1.06 twin scroll exhaust housing. Mark has got all the ignition back into it plus more fuel so we know by this it's more than out performing the dynoed figures.

Nice one!!!iv already seen 582lb ft from mine but have always had to be ultra safe on the spark at the top and had to play with the cam timing to see a good spread of torque and power, now im just going twin scroll, spec r so will be able to let the cams make more top end power and not lose what i have down low..

Yes mate,i did the first time round but had loads of grief and on the second day at about 9 at night we were running out of v power(20 min journey away)and had only got upto 7k and see 604hp iirc but didnt really get to optimise the spark..
Since then weve changed a few things but found it to risky to wind more spark at the top but got a flat 600 hp from 6.2k to 8k so know there more up there still..
Will get a few runs in the car with the new twin scroll and spec r then pull it apart and put new crank and pistons in then re dyno on the bench, fit in car and see what we get..
cheers danny

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
that subject of back to back test does make me giggle i will say . Reason why is i aint a lover of pace as a company for the last few years so i aint bigging them up by far and its run by a silly man with on clue ( i am being nice ) but on the last test done in a mag about 500 coolers pace come out bottom which put a bee in his already buzzing bonnet lol. He sent a load of 500 to a testing place and paid a shit load of cash for them to be tested ( that is how it should be done for 100 percent results as you wouldnt put your new engine in a mates car when you can take it to a dyno cell ) and the results were not as the mag told them as the pace one was one if not the best one in that test. The thing is i aint shitting on one and i aint trying to tell people to buy pace ( i wouldnt wish that on any one ) lol. And this is the thing what makes me laugh ( like my grammer ) is there is a simple mod that can be done to the inside of the / any cooler but to this day i still dont think any one does it . I have it done to all the coolers i use its a no brainer . Also i aint seen the spec r cooler so i cant comment on it but also in the ideal world a 500 cooler would not have tubes from left to right as they should go up as short tubes but more of is how it should be done or this is common known by people but not many people do the right things . I aint saying buy pace o no but just be a but smart when it comes to buying a cooler. Sorry for the downer but once again another 500 test has push me over the end. Here is a thought. Every one on here pf put in a pound or two a then we some one can send all the 500 to a test place and then this can be put to bed ? ? ?
